What is the best external hard drive for an hp computer one should buy?

Is your HP computer new enough to have USB 3? If so get a USB 3 external drive.

I've had better luck by building my own. This is a simple process involving 4 screws and two connectors.
You can select any compatible drive and a quality case and avoid the many problems that come with propriety hardware and software.

I recommend the WD mybook (Western Digital) 1 TB
I have one here on my HP desktop and I really like it. I use mine just as if it were a huge storage device. I have 26 music videos stored on it. When I want to watch I just click my desktop icon and watch. That save all that space on my internal HDD. I also have tons of pictures stored on it.
