Does anyone remember a Japanese cartoon with possibly a cat like creature with long ears that was maybe blue?

My son grew up in the late 80's and early 90's, and he had this tape of this cartoon that he loved, and I am really hard pressed zeroing in on it. I can not remember the title, but I would definitely know it if I heard it. I remember the long ears and the blue color the most. If anyone has the slightest possible idea, please tell me!
