Touring Tasmania Where do you suggest other than the east coast?

In October we are going to Tasmania and have 3 nights Hobart then not sure about the other 4 nights. We have travelled the east Coast to Launceston before so now wondering about the other areas. Where would you suggest. We are thinking of driving up the centre and take a peek at Cradle Mountain and maybe Stanley or would you go via the west coast. Any suggestions and places to stay other than Hobart would be appreciated. Thanks

Alright... first and foremost, are you a chocaholic? Because you simply have to go to the Cadbury's factory in Clairemont. Go to their website — I think you have to book in for the tour. But you can either drive there, or there's a guided tour that picks you up from your motel and takes you to the boat that goes up the Derwent River. However, if you do drive there, I do recommend you go via Bagdad. There is nothing like claiming you have been to Bagdad, and having the photographic proof (take your picture under the town's sign). It's on the way, and just off the main highway.

As for other places to see, things to do. If you love scenery, I do recommend a trip to Russell Falls. It's about a 20-minute walk in (from the carpark) for memory. But the waterfalls and bushland is brilliant. And you must go up Mount Wellington. Do take a cardigan. Even in October, it can be cool and VERY draughty up there. And a nice picnic lunch in Lake St Claire National Park.

And I do recommend you visit the westcoast. You can't really appreciate Tasmania unless you see the whole island. It is truly amazing the difference between the beautiful picturesque Frecinyet Peninsula and the rugged westcoast. Strahan is beautiful, and Queenstown has to be seen to be believed.

I'd also recommend King Solomon's Cave (if you're into stalagmites and stalagtites). And (of course) the Caterract Gorge in Launceston.

There is so much to see and do in Tasmania. It's a fabulous holiday spot. And because it's not that large an area (and the roads are brilliant), nothings more than a few hours drive from whereever you decide to sleep that night.

Obviously, go to the Tasmania tourist website for more information, and locations/directions. I hope you have a wonderful holiday.

If all you want to do is sit around on the beach, then I'd suggest staying at somewhere like St Helens or Bicheno. Beautiful beaches, and some lovely areas to explore. You're not too far from the Bay of Fires and Wineglass Bay. But then again, Tassie's so small, you're not too far from anywhere really. Launceston's only a short distance away, and you're still close enough to check out further south (ie Hobart, Port Arthur, etc.) I'd suggest you check out the website

Drive to Queenstown and Strahan and explore Macquarie Harbour and the Gordon River by boat. Beautiful and spectacular.
