home remedies for fleas?

we seem to have a plague of them. i have bought the top of the line products and within a couple of weeks the dogs(3 of them,1cat), all seem to be infested again. We also spray the yard the same time we do the pets, but to no avail.Would appreciate any info. Thanks =)

Go to a bulk foods place like Sam's and get a LOT of cayenne pepper and sprinkle it everywhere in behind furniture, under it, just everywhere in your house except where you and the dogs walk. The fleas will flee. Or, chop up some garlic, put it in a sprayer bottle of water and spray that around. Cedar oil works well and smells nicer though. The cedar oil can also be sprayed in your yard. You can get diatomaceous earth to sprinkle around in your house too, but it takes longer because it isn't running them off, it's killing them slowly. You can put that on your dogs and cat also. For your yard, if you live where tobacco is processed, go and get trimmings and spread it around. It will cost you about $20 a barrel and you'll have to supply your own barrel or container.

I'd include source sites but it's late and I'm tired & hitting the hay. Just do some googling. This stuff works. I use it and I have dogs and cats.

There is not home remedy, take the dog to the vet and get on frontline or the flea medication....as you said, all the bathing is no good, it will cause the dog to loose his hair and cause skin irriatations from too much bathing. I do not use any meds to control fleas in any of my dogs, never have. I use only Brewers Yeast Tablets with Garlic, it is great for their skin and coats, and fleas will not get on a dog with Garlic in their systems, fleas cant live on garlic.........I have had all my dogs on it for over 15 yrs and all love the tablets. You can buy them at Pets Mart or any pet store, but make sure it is Brewers Yeast Tablets with Garlic only this kind will do the trick read the lable, you give according to the dogs weight, and I always split the dosage part in am with meal and rest in the evening with evening meals...... Bo gets 10 a day, so he gets 5 in am and 5 in pm, now Demon he only gets 4 so 2 in and 2 in pm.. buty again, alot of people like the dosage of flea meds, once a month, I dont like them and they always keep the fleas off the dogs....and the yeasts tablets are to be given year round, none missed, the dogs keep the garlic in their system, and summer hits, no fleas. I recommended this to a guy on here that has Pits, and all he dogs had fleas, he put his dogs on the Tablets in April and he emailed me back a few weeks later and said all the dogs were flea free and he had not seen one flea on the dogs sjnce, and he dogs loved them as well. good luck and you can take your dog to Pets Mart and have them flea bathe the dog once really well, to get them off, and then begin a flea treatment, the tablets or a once a month method from your vet. you will also need to treat the area where the dog stays to get rid of the fleas, or it wont do any good to do anything at all.

Simply "fixing" your dog isn't the solution. You need to treat your home as you have a major flea infestation in your house. Because you do. You need to vacuum every square inch of your home everyday for 6 weeks. Also wash your linens and places your dog sleeps twice a week. Eventually you'll break the flea cycle and those pests will be gone for good, and you'll be better able to keep them at bay with regular home cleaning. Also dust your yard with diatomaceous earth. It kills fleas and it's completely safe around you and your dog. You can even buy food grade diatomaceous earth. With that you can put some in a water bottle and spray your dog to kill the fleas.

you need to get your animals to the vets to get them properly done, the vet can give them a flea treatment which should kill the fleas that are on them and help prevent any further ones.

At the moment you may have fleas living in your house, on the carpet, sofas, and basically anywhere the animals have been so you need to make sure you hoover everyday but the most important thing is to get the animals treated and once you have bring them back to a nice flea free home. To keep it that way just keep hoovering to make sure any left over fleas in the house go - but they should die.

Your animals could also be in contact with other people's animals and catching fleas from them so I think the vets is the best bet - it could be making them really uncomfortable

Fleas can be one of the most annoying aspects of owning a pet. They aggravate both you and your pet - dog fleas and cat fleas can and will bite people as well, and flea bites are itchy and a pain. Fortunately, there are a number of ways to deal with the problem of fleas - both preventative measures you should take to avoid them in the first place and ways to get rid of them once your house is filled up with these unwelcome guests.
