Yahoo Answers is shutting down on 4 May 2021 (Eastern Time) and the Yahoo Answers website is now in read-only mode. There will be no changes to other Yahoo properties or services, or your Yahoo account. You can find more information about the Yahoo Answers shutdown and how to download your data on this help page.

When you open a question, and you look at all the other answers, do you bother to read the very long ones?

Do "essays" scare you off with fears of boredom? Do you only have the patience to read the shorter ones?

And does it make any difference to this if the question is one that really grabs your interest?

Sometimes I read the longer ones, if I am interested in what they have to say. Sometimes, I sorta skim through it, or read a few sentences from the whole to get the gist, and that's enough.

Yahoo answers is the first place I've seen where people give huge answers so freely. In forums, people usually only make huge posts when they're offended and arguing with someone, or if they want to start a topic worthy of being stickied.

With long answers, you can usually get a sense of whether it is worth reading on from the first two sentences.

As for long questions, I used to look at them, but not any more. The long ones are usually teenies with relationship issues. Yawn...

Usually no. If I click on a question and it is a page long I go to the next one. As for answers depends on the subject.

I actually don't normally read the other answers. Unless it is a question that really interests me then I might read the other answers.

Depends what kind of question. If its a genuine "help" question, I read to see if the answer is technically correct. If it is, then I give a Thumbs Up and don't give an Answer myself.

Only if I'm extremely interested in the topic. Or if I really want or need a lot of detail.

I read all of them. The most informative answers are the lengthy ones.
