residenial phone wiring?

My phone lines are dead in a home I just purchased. I need help trouble shooting. I use VOIP so I have unplugged the customer side of phone box. my VOIP works but when I plug in to home wiring I get nothing.

I have checked a few jacks to make sure red and green are wired the same.

Any suggestions on what I can try? I should be able to plug VOIP into home wiring for all the jacks to work.

It was working and it just stopped? Probably not your wiring, check the connections between your modem and the telephone jack or try to plug the modem in another telephone jack to see if it works.

i am assuming that you are using an ATA and not SIP phones... if you are using SIP phones, then you will need to run CAT 5 to each phone from your router....

are you sure you disconnected the right wires at the NID? many homes are wired for multiple lines, even single family homes...

connect a corded phone to the phone jacks, and press a button, do you hear the DMTF tones (or does the lighted keypad light?) if so then you have battery and ground on the wiring, and you more than likely did not disconnect the proper wiring..

when your ATA is connected to your inside wiring, and you dial into your VoIP number do you get a busy signal, or does it go straight to voicemail? if so, then there is a short on your inside wiring... if not, then there may be a break in the wiring, or the other jacks are wired differently...

did you disconnect the customer side wires, or the telco side wires? if you disconnected the customer side wires, were there multiple wires that you disconneced? if so, you will need to splice these together to feed the additional jacks.. if there are multiple wires at the NID i would recommend disconnecting the telephone company side wire (just makes it easier, by only needing to remove one wire, leaving all premise wire intact as is)

is the wire inside the walls, or above the walls? if it is inside the walls it will be difficult to trace out with out a tone generator and probe, if they are surface mounted wires, then follow the wire from jack to jack to ensure that all the green/red are connected to either the green/red or blue/white pair of the inside wiring..

you can follow the links on my profile or http://nyphonejacks.com/ for additional troubleshooting tips...

Have you checked the outdoor interface box to make sure all of the red/green wires are physically connected to each other?
