That's difficult to say without more information, but your alternatives are:

    • Temporary subclass 457 sponsorship. You'll need to find a willing and eligible employer and that will be difficult to do. 457 visas are only temporary, but can lead to PR after 2 years if your employer is willing to sponsor you for a permanent visa.

    • An independent 175 visa if you can score 120 points, though because you have a SOL only occupation, it will take 3 years or more for a visa to be granted. No new SOL independent visa applications will be processed until all outstanding CSL and then MODL occupations are processed. That won't begin until at least 2011 (or later) and there will be a massive backlog by then.

    • an off-list sponsorship by a state government - you will probably need a job offer (not employer sponsorship) to have much chance of getting an off-list nominations, but is probably your best bet if you can get a job offer. Off-list state sponsorships are usually provisional, but they automatically lead to PR after 2 years if you stick to the visa conditions.

Your basic problem is that your occupation simply isn't in high demand and our current visa processing priorities mean that people with high demand occupations or sponsorship continually go to the head of the queue, regardless of when their application was lodged. The state sponsorship route is best if you can manage it as those applications receive the highest priority visa processing.
