My son is terrified of the vacuum cleaner. He starts screaming "Don't suck me" every time I turn it on.

I combat it by telling him I'm going to use it and giving him the opportunity to leave the room.

He was afraid of the dark so I got him a night light. And when he was afraid of monsters I got him a spray bottle and filled it with "Monster Spray - actually just water with a spritz of perfume.

I am honest with him , like with the monsters, I told him that there were no monsters but just in case here is some spray.

I also ask him what would make his fear better an I expose him to things that scare him a little bit at a time.

My daughter was very afraid of dogs. She would start to scream and shake and try to get away as fast as possible. I didn't focus on that behavior much. I would just hold her until she felt more comfortable. It lasted about a year and a half. I would show her books with dogs in it and tell her stories of when I had a dog. We would watch people walk dogs from the safety of our living room window. Eventually she was able to be outside with them and even pet them. Every time she saw a dog and had kept calm I would reward her for being brave. We now even have a dog that she loves. Don't tell your son that there is something wrong with the way he feels because there isn't. Maybe just sit in a salon and let him watch everyone get there haircut and let him watch you and other relatives getting there hair cut. Let him talk to a stylist that will cut his hair and let him get comfortable with that person. Eventually he will be comfortable with it, but it may take awhile. Be patient. He also might feel more comfortable it you cut his hair for him.

oh my aunts son used to be afraid of cutting his hair. he eventually grew out of it. i dont really know how that happens. best thing to do is to make something up like 'if you cut your hair you get smarter,' or give him maybe some money. i think thats what they used to do for my cousin, just give him some cash... be creative. a positive attitude and some good motivation towards moving forward and growing up is very helpful

  • My daughter is afraid of shots and i havent found away to help her overcome it yet. My son is afraid of the dark so a night lght helps. I would suggest distacting him when you do it. For example have dad play candy land with him while you do it.

ask him what is it about a hair cut that scares him and walk him though the steps some kids are scared that getting a hair cut might hurt so maybe show him that it doesn't
