I started cereal with my son at 6 weeks. THere won't be a choking hazard unless you make it too thick. I only put in a BABY spoonful and a half. You do what you feel is right for your baby, don't listen to these mother's touting no food for 5-6 months...my son would have had a bottle in his mouth constantly if I waited. Every baby is different, my mom used cereal with my brother, but with me she had trouble with me even finishing the formula and being full. Let the baby lead you.

I introduced cereal at 15 weeks but mixed with formula in a bowl and give by spoon. I never, and was told by many people, to never put cereal in a baby's bottle. It's a choking hazard.

  • NEVER put cereal in bottle. Choking hazard for one! And you should introduce cereal at 6 mos. recommends WIC and most doctors. Some start at 4 mos. I started 5.5 months I believe bec. I felt she was ready, and she was. Then I slowly introduced solids.

My oldest son was a large baby and VERY hungry. Breast milk and formula alone weren't enough to satisfy his appetite early on so at about 2 or 3 weeks I added maybe a teaspoon of rice cereal to his bottle to give him a little extra and it helped tremendously. He stayed fuller longer and was satisfied. I know everyone says not to introduce "solids" too early, but I think some babies need it, and besides, mothers and grandmothers did it that way for years and I trust their advice.

My son is 3 months old and our pediatrician had a 2 month minimum...some people say at least six months. You don't want to cause food allergies from introducing that kind of stuff too early. Ask your doctor to verify

    You don't.

When your baby is capable from eating from a spoon then you may introduce cereal or other solids to him/her that way(from a bowl with a spoon). It's never recommended to add cereal into a bottle unless your baby has reflux.

There is no reason for your baby to have any solids before the age of 6 months unless specifically told so by your doctor to combat reflux.

well, doctor's say not to do it before 5 months but then it's oh so tempting to put it in their bottle cause you hear that it makes them sleep through the night longer... if that's your reasoning, i wouldn't do it any sooner than two months and if you put it in the bottle, start with a tiny tiny amount (1/4 teaspoon) to see how baby reacts... if baby is sleeping fine and you have no realy reason to introduce it, then I would wait till 5 months :)
