With dry socket, is it normal to have really severe headache?

How long can the symptoms be expected to last? Would it be normal to have nose bleed even for someone whose nose normally never bleeds? Is the only medication given for it zinc oxide locally and painkillers and antibiotics?

Could such symptoms be anything else?

Update:

Thanks Pink Marshmallow. Gee, I don't think knowing you are in pain would make me feel better. It's horrible and I feel for you too. I saw the dentist yesterday and the procedure didn't hurt. I wonder if they did something different for you.It felt a bit better afterward. But she is just a new dentist and my professional dentist is 150km away. I'll phone her again. The local dentist didn't say anything when I told her about the nose bleed. I like it when they explain things better. I'll check out your page too. Thanks.

Hi there, right now, i am currently suffering from dry socket. haha. Sorry if i find it humorous but im just in so much pain that knowing that somebody out there is in the same boat as me kinda makes me feel relieved. lol. Anyway, I have been getting head aches as well, on top of the constant ear pain and pretty much pain on my left side of the jaw, around that area (the same side as where my dry socket is). Have you gone to your dentist at all? Because I went to mine and he packed the dry socket with some medication and it really made all the difference. It was amazing (afterward anyway, since the procedure was so painful). As for your nose bleed, it could be because of your head ache brought upon by the stupid dry socket lol. but if i were you, i would try and phone your dentist and ask him if the nose bleed is normal. But im guessing it could just be a complication, it probably is. Check my page out, look under the question that i have asked regarding dry socket, i got some pretty neat responses and you could find out about my ordeal too! Anyway hope you get better soon! =)
