Who knows about the concentration camps in South Africa?

I know about it because it's in our history, but I'd like to know how many of you know about it.

It was during the 2nd Anglo - Boer war that raged from 1899 to 1902.

The British put the women and children in concentration camps since they were the Boers' logistical supply line.

PS. I'm South African

Update:

Hotwheels, I hear what you're saying, but please note that I don't justify Apartheid, it was cruel.

Update 2:

And for the record Lesotho was a semi-dependant country. You meant Transkei, Ciskei, Bophutatswana and Venda.

Update 3:

wichitaor1, the negative things are best forgotten because I've personally seen how it flares new hatred. I asked this question to get an indication of how many people (non SA citizens) actually know SA history.

I have heard of them, from various history books. The British were following an example the Spanish used in Cuba in order to contain a rebellion.

-"Yami" - We Americans get to hear a lot about the atrocities that we are supposedly responsible for. Most American students are exposed to the histories of the bad things we did to Native Americans, Africans (slavery), Asians (the atomic bombs and the Vietnam War), and now the Middle East. Do you think those guilt trips are that positive?

    >My contention is that while we should learn from the negative aspects in history, we should not dwell on them.

BTW. I am writing my master's thesis on Africa, specifically the civil war in Angola. The basis of my thesis is the Cold War interventions in the conflict, particularly that of the Soviet Union, Cuba, and the United States. South Africa played a big part in the conflict; that is about the limit of my knowledge in the history of your nation. However, I have heard that South Africa is a beautiful place.

Yes, I have heard of them. It's not something that is taught here in Australia. Even the Boer War itself mostly only comes up because of the movie "Breaker Morant".

Do you mean the "Black Homeland" concentration camps that Whites forced Blacks to live on, and still do today?

    Such as Lesotho.

But yeah, I know you mean the Boer camps that were set up by the British. And yeah, I know you don't care that your own people did things 100 times worse to the Native Africans there.

By the way, there were also many BLACKS in those "Boer" concentration camps. Look that one up.

Well, since Britain is more "American" then most other countries, not many people know about it. We learn about the atrociety that the Nazis, Russians, and may other people did, but not the "good" British.
