Da Vinci code question?

I saw the movie the other day, and I've read the book but can't remember, but why is Mary Magdalene so important?

I get that from her remains they can prove that Sophie is her descendant, but wasn't Mary a prostitute, so any child that she had could have anyone as a father? How were they going to prove that it was Jesus' ?

Just a little history. Mary M. was a woman without good reputation. This was translated as a prostitute. But remember, in those days, a woman found after a rape or caught in involuntary incest could be stoned. So our connotation & biblical connotation of prostitute is different.

There is no scriptural reference to Mary M. being pregnant nor married to Jesus. This would have been important news. The Catholic church had no control over the 1st epistles. None of the writers held back on any of the greater charges thrown at Jesus so this minor one of begetting a child would surely have been mentioned.

And Old Testament promise was that the seed of David would always remain on a throne until Messiah's return (not seed of Jesus). This is addressed when Jeremiah fled with one of the daughters of ancestry of David (entrusted to Bacariah, his scribe) to the "northern" lands. No direct proof, but hypothesis is there's a link to England, the coronation chair & stone beneath chair.

So just keep in mind the Da Vinci Code author states that the book is a NOVEL, not non-fiction reading.

Dan Brown says this about Mary Magdalene:

She was the wife of Jesus Christ and it was she who Christ was planning on giving control of his religion (or something or other) to. At the same time, Christ had some jealous followers of the Church who were hoping to get that role, and so (after his death, I think) spread rumors that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute, which led to the belief that women were incapable of handling such things and, apparently, led to the story of Adam and Eve, which further emphasized the evilness of women and the greatness of men. Dan Brown calls this the beginning of anti-feminism. Anyway, Magdalene had to flee to safety, and so found refuge in Paris, and bore Christ's child, who bore another and so on until Sophie was born.

This is all according to Dan Brown, however. I don't know anything about the Christian religion, as I'm not Christian, so I don't know what you're taught about Mary Magdalene. But in the book, this is what Dan Brown says and why she's important to the story.

The point is that there was a separate book of Mary had written that never made it into the bible at the conference Constantine held when forming the Holy Bible. This story says that she was not a prostitute, in fact was characterized as such so Paul the apostle could founded The Christian Church. The Vatican

So, I know his question was posted YEARS ago, but I only just now watched this movie yesterday and I've been looking for this question to be asked and answered!

To me, the whole search for her remains is a huge plot hole because without DNA from Jesus, you cannot actually prove anyone was a descendent of Christ! That's huge! I get that there is all this evidence and what not. But finding Mary doesn't actually prove anything. This makes her bloodline not that important in terms of the Holy Grail and Christianity, if you ask me. I just didn't see anyone else present this idea, so I'm gonna lay it right here for the Internet to have forever.

no Marry was not a prostitute even though the catholic church made her seen like one to hid the truth that she was like Jesus friend who had been with him the hole time. Don't remember if it was in Da Vinci but it goes something like that

B/C in the book they had a chart showing who was who

and it was proven she had a kid w/ jesus

    EDIT:

and mary was important b/c she was used as proof that Jesus was just as mortal and just as tempted by the world as anyone else

Source(s): The book don't blame me if the book is wrong or evil or whatever I had nothing else to read that day

She was supposed to be Jesus' wife, and also she was supposed to be the one seated beside him in the picture of the last supper. They show marry as one of the twelve disciples.
