Do atheists who shout. "Don't try to convert me!" sound weak?

They must have met some crazy fanatics and got a bad impression of spirituality.

Religious people don't fear being converted by atheists in quite the same way do they?

I think they get their strength from God while atheists ignore the source of their strength.

Update:

You can have your cat and dog arguments. I'm sorry you do. I agree with you about fanatical Christians. I just havn't met one in many years because I'm in a Hindu country. I think Fanaticsm is not at all Christianity. I'm a Hindu so I've never tried to convert anyone into Christianity.

I know they go the wrong way about it. I just pray that people don't believe they Represent God.

Update 2:

Actually I was only asking about atheists WITHIN R&S because they are the only hard core atheists I ever meet.

I just read a question on R&S where a lady was upset that an atheist told her that she and all christians should die.

Someone on that post said these particular words, "don't try to convert me"

I am interested to understand why atheists are so angry. If you don't like what evangelists do (not many would) can't you think of a more creative or passive way of dealing with a person?

My point that I want to bring out is that atheists lack peace of mind.

I am concerned for them because my religion says to honour all living beings Because God is in their hearts. Otherwise they wouldn't have any life although they keep saying, "Leave us alone to get on with our lives"

I just wish that you can all accept God minus the mindlessness of some modern religions. I am pro-christian but I agree that evangelists could drive you mad. Still everyone should do their part to avoid fighting.

Any atheists on here that say that, yes, they are rather sad. Coming into a religion section and trying to avoid religious conversions, that is just stupid.

In real life, if someone tries to convert me, I will tell them to not bother, that I am not in the market for their product. I try to be respectful, but assertive. If they persist, that is what Headphones are for.

Those that go around beggin to not be converted, yes they are weak, and can not face the reality that some people disagree with them.

I do not shout "don't try to convert me", but I WILL shut a Christian solicitor down on the spot without a second thought.

Often times at my job, I'll get (usually) a Baptist trying to hand me a miniature pamphlet, often times laid out like a comic book that explains to me why I'm going to go to hell because I don't go to their church. For a while, I thought it was hilarious and collected the little books, but lately I seem to have gotten all of them.

Now when I am handed a booklet I immediately hand it back and say, "Sorry sir, we don't allow solicitations of any kind." This has lead to me being cursed at, physically threatened, and even spat upon.

So tell me, is it your "God's strength" making them do that, or what?

NO!!! They are demanding their human rights against people who abuse it!!!

Why do christians demand the right to believe and worship as they wish but deny it to all non christians?!!

Ask yourself why it is only Christians that get attacked and not the other religions?!!!!

Do you not recognise that Christians are provoking retaliation and repudiation for their terrible attitudes?!!

Perhaps if Christians stopped their intolerant, egotistical, hate filled and bigoted postings things might change!!

Perhaps if Christians stopped eschewing education, science, evolution works of fiction and much, much more things might change!!

Perhaps if Christians stopped being the only religion opposing human rights and persecuting gays, pro choice and so much more things might change!!

Perhaps if Christians stopped demanding freedom of religion whilst they deny it to all non Christians and persecute them things might change!! !!!

If Christians rediscovered the god of love and forgiveness and put aside all those terrible human emotions things would definitely change!!!!

Why are Christians so afraid of people who simply do not believe in any god?!!!! Surely it can only be because they are so afraid that atheist are right and they are wrong or it would not bother them!!!!!!

As soon as Christians rediscover the loving god and start acting like it the problem will cease!!!!

You can't be "converted" to atheism. Atheism is the default position, the lack of belief in god, so that would be deconverting.

I haven't met an atheist who "shouts" anything like that. However I can see why one would, evangelicals are annoying.

The "source of their strength" if you feel so inclined to call it that is their tenacity and motivation. Many strongly religious people are personally motivated by emotions such as fear and guilt. That's part of what motivates a street corner preacher or a Jehovah's Witness to get out of bed in the morning, or any church going christian on Sunday for that matter.

Oh, wow, you know me SO well. </sarcasm>

Atheists aren't typically the door-to-door, pamphlet-making type...plus they're a minority in America...so yes, you're right, religious folks probably don't have to worry about ever meeting a silly fundie atheist.

And I'm not AFRAID of religious people trying to convert me, I just think it's annoying as f*ck and really disrespectful. How would you like it if I knocked on your door at 8 AM on a Saturday once a month, grinning like an idiot and declaring that your beliefs are wrong?

Psst - if you think I'm weak, I dare you to come up to my apartment with a sackful of Christian pamphlets and say that to my face.

We have to shout when jerks whose creed it is to spread the good news to those who don't want it, do so at the top of their lungs right in your face. The following is the creed from "The Street Preachers' Fellowship" web site.

The Street Preachers’ Fellowship is a voluntary ministerial fellowship of Street Preachers’, called of God to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ in the open air, in strict obedience to the scriptures while balancing the same as being “subject unto the higher powers” (Romans 13:1). The purpose of the Fellowship is three fold.

Establish a strict set of Biblical and Legal standards for ministerial conduct, of which God does bless, the Bible teaches, and which the Courts will be compelled to accept and recognize by both Constitutional mandate, Case Law rulings, and professional encounters with Ministers of God that have the character, strength and wisdom of a Street Preaching pro se lawyer (Titus 3:13), with courage enough to love Jesus Christ and walk herein (Acts 24:10/ 26:2).

Provide God authored, and Biblically based training, discipline and education in the scriptural and legal requirements of PREACHING THE WORD OF GOD IN THE OPEN AIR TO FOLKS WHO DO NOT WANT TO HEAR IT, amidst law enforcement personnel who may not care to uphold the right to do so; and provide every Fellowship member with up to date legal briefings, case law, court rulings and training to utilize all, in the defense of the gospel of Jesus Christ in both the open air and the courts of justice.

Provide expert testimony, pro se legal counsel, and overwhelming court room support to each Fellowship member facing the outward testimony of a God honoring street ministry of Pauline proportions, when the Street Preacher’s daily walk with Christ is sealed “in prisons more frequent” (2 Corinthians 11:23).

    no

they sound like they have had enough of beleivers trying to convert them and want to be left alone, in peace to just live their life liek everyone else

thats because religious people are unlkiely to be "converted" by atheists

due to the fact they rarely change their minds on theuir beliefs

and the fact trhat athieists dont try to convert them in the first place

if you beleive you get your strength from god to not listen to other peopels views, cool, up to you

  • Atheists want to be free from religion. It is not a shout of being weak it they simply don't like being bullied,

"ignore the source of their strength"??

I think you're viewing Atheists as an organized group? unlike religious people Atheist do no congregate to worship anything.

Atheist is someone who lacks belief.

and it gets pretty frustrating when you have some religious maniac down your throat constantly rambling on with myths and folklore.

or when said fanatics show up at your door and douse you with holy water!?!?!? WTF??

I'm not atheist by the way..

but people tend to label me so anyway.

Sometimes I'm in the mood for debating and I don't mind all the conversion attempts. But sometimes its annoying. All the conversion attempts are the same, with the same (or similar) bible verses quoted and the same empty promises repeated.
