Can I cook my homemade pasta dumplings in cider or juice?

I enjoy cooking them in sauerkraut or in boiling water and serving them with thickened cherries or sauteed apples and browned butter. I'd like to try cooking it directly in cider but don't want to ruin a batch. I've haven't found any recipes that would show me someone has done this successfully.

Although I have never cooked pasta/dumplings in other than water, I would try and add 1 or 2 cups of cider to the water, to give it some flavor. Just adding cider would raise your cost and make a very thick liquid. An alternative: cook a few unpeeled Cortland apples halved (Cortland apples do not come apart as quickly) in the cold water, bring it to boil, simmer for 2 minutes or so to extract the flavour, and add your dumplings. Maybe putting the apples in Cheesecloth to prevent mushiness; or enjoy the cooked apples in your dumplings....

I believe anything in moderation in the cooking, creates pleasant foods. I enjoy eating liver with a yogurt sauce, and cook the meat for tacos with some dried currants or raisins and a little cinnamon (helps regulating blood sugar) . It adds another dimension.

Hope this helps you keep creating new dishes.

    Good luck!
