How do I get lice or nits out of a woollen cap?

Wool can't be boiled. I tried soaking in eucalyptus and tea-tree oils. Perhaps that will work. Due to continued reinfestations though, clothes need to be continually cleansed. The poisons we're using for the head lice don't seem to work as well as the sassafras essential oil I have used previously (but I can't get any just now).

Remember, lice are human parasites. They need human blood to survive. Lice do not embed themselves in clothing. The only concern is a louse that came off the head within the last 24 hours, or a lice egg ("nit") on a hair, that was transferred by friction on to an adjacent item.

Any items that can tolerate it should be washed in hot water. If they cannot be washed, they should be put into the dryer for ½ hour on high heat. If neither of these is possible, these items should be bagged for 48 hours.

Tie the top of the bag with a knot or a twist-tie. In the case that there is a live lice bug on any garment, it will die within 24-48 hours because it has no access to human blood. In the case of stray hairs with nits, the fact that they are in a sealed bag is equally beneficial. Any newly hatched nymph will die right away without a human head on which to feed. I hope this information is helpful.

I work for a company that specializes in the removal of head lice. We use all natural products, but our advice is free!

Like someone said, don`t wear it for a while. Adults and nymphs are only able to survive for 2-3 days off the host in optimal conditions.

Under normal circumstances however this is more likely to be measured in hours rather than days as the adult louse is highly susceptible to dehydration and will quickly starve.

Eggs can survive away from the host for up to 7 days but will not hatch without the warmth of a human host. So I would not wear the hat for a week or so, all the blighter's and their eggs will be dead by then.

The chemical head lice treatments have become ineffective as head lice have become immune to them. Luckily there are quite a few totally natural remedies available that readily kill head lice.

Remedies containing Neem Oil are known to be highly effective as Neem interrupts the growth and reproduction of the head louse. Neem’s insecticidal properties are widely recognized now and the oil is commonly available at your local health food store.

    Good luck.

There is a comb called "Nitty Gritty" you can get it from tescos chemist its behind the counter because at £10 is quite expensive compared to other nit combs, but it is the best £10 i have ever spent, each prong on the comb has a spiral groove and it removes eggs aswell unlike other combs claim to do. Its also guaranteed for life any probs and they send you a new one out for free, hope this helps ;)

Just throw it out cause you can never know if you will get them out. You don't want that in your pots. Just let it go.

    taking it off.

lice need the heat of a body to survive,

take the hat off a day and they should have died.

I'm sorry, but you're going to have to burn it. It will be veryyy difficult to get them out.
