So my parents won't let me get a cell phone...?

Question

I'm 14, but I'm a freshman in high school, so young for my grade.  I'm going to get a school permit VERY soon, and have a lot of big volleyball tournaments in which I would need/want a cell phone.  Right now I have a pay as you go phone (tracfone..blah.), but I would like to invest in the alltel prepaid. I have a job and earn more than enough money to pay for it, and I said I would.  I have straight A's, and am very responsible.  They really won't give me a reason other than that i just bought a phone.  I did buy a new $50 tracfone a half a year ago, and that was it.  What can I do more than I already do to convince them to let me buy my new phone?  I don't buy a lot of other big things, so I don't see what the problem is in wanting to spend MY hard earned money on what I really want.  What can I do?

well actually 14 isnt young for being a freshie . i was 14 . anyway i have no idea what you mean by getting a school permit .maybe you man a work permit . i dont knw . i dont know much abt alltel. but i know abt virgin mobile which i have . virgin mobile specialize in prepaid they dont have contracts at all. and r way better than tracfones . there r different plans depending on your talking habits  . there are pay as you go and monthy plans ( all w/o contracts) . you can get ureself a 10 dollar phone -which i have - and get 400 min. free nights ( starting at 7) and weekends for 50 a month . i wud suggest that over a tracfone . get a job at school , try helping out at school for money with teachers ( grading papers ,etc) where you can buy your own phone and pay the bill without your parents help and they will see how responsible you are becz u r actually willing to work for the phone . good luck and SO sorry this is so long . lol

I would think since you have a tracfone now that getting a "new" cell phone wouldn't be a big deal. Do you have a steady job?  buy the phone you want and don't worry about your parents.  they will just probably kick you out of the house and then you can live with your friends.  I did something similar to this when I wanted an ipod, my parents wouldn't buy me one so I kepted bugging them and even started crying a few times.  That just made them mad.  I would not bug your parents anymore about getting a new phone because that will just upset them and you will never get it.  Ask them for a specific date when you can get the new phone and negotiate with them since you waited for them to buy it for you. Sounds like you are pretty responsible so use the crappy tracfone for now and just wait.  what is a school permit and what kind of car will your parents let you drive?

Sorry. I can't tell you much there. You've already tried everything I could think of to tell you. I have a tracfone too (yeah, it is blah) but it gets the job done and so i don't ask for any other phones. But...if you want a new one...I guess all you can do now is prove you deserve it. sit them down and speak to them and bring good points with you, and be prepared for any questions. Make sure they know how responsible you would be about it. Also, make sure you always have backup.
