why do old men tend to have their pants pulled up high?

it is not as if their legs are shorter is it?

    As we age the intervertebral cartilage shrinks thus reducing the hip to shoulder distance. A similar effect takes place with other joints with the result that relative body dimensions change. Old men's trousers retain the same dimensions as those for younger (larger) men so have to be pulled up higher to get a comfortable crutch fit.

    When people age, their hips tend to shrink, thus, causing the hips to be closer to the shoulders. Therefore, they need to wear higher pants in order to cover up their crotch. Personally, I think they should untuck their shirts so people won't know that they are wearing their pants way high up.
