My 4 month old breastfeed daughter is only having a bowl movement every 4 days is this normall?
My four month old daughter who is totally breastfeed is only having a bowel movement every 4 days, by this time she is blooded and cramps, has a lot of gas and very fussy. is it normal for her to only be going every 4 days or could this indicate a bowl problem, I know she is obvious having problems but I was just wondering how often other breastfeed baby's are normally going?
it also seems to me that she sleeps a lot NO I AM NOT COM PLANING, but like I said she is breastfeed and she sleeps through the night 11 hours 730pm until 630am-700am eats and is back to sleep at 900am she then sleeps until 1100 and is up for another 1 1/2 - 2h and is back a sleep again for an hour I just do not remember my son ever sleeping this much, he as well sleep-ed through the night but stayed up for longer periods of time during the day.

My daugher doesn't have bowel movements too often either. She's mostly breastfed, but gets bottles of formula too. I've asked both doctors shes had and they didn't seem concerned. I've been wondering lately if it's something wrong. I would maybe contact a doctor.
My daughter also sleeps quite a bit. She sleeps about the same schedule as yours does, so I wouldn't worry about the sleeping too much. She has her days though where she really doesn't sleep at all and I dread those days!

i've heard from my baby's pediatrician, that it's totally normal for an exclusively breastfed baby (older than 2 months) to poop as often as 5 or more times a day, but it's also normal to go once every few days. however, it appears that your daughter may have some bowel problems, since you're saying that she is bloated and has cramps, gas, and is fussy. it could be because of your own diet, you should watch for foods that make you gassy, and that's how your baby becomes gassy too. it does seem like she sleeps too long w/out waking up at night, i don't think it's ok for an only-on-breast-milk 4 month old to sleep that much. i have a 6.5 month old girl, and now that we've started her on solids, she poops about 2-3 times a day on average. but when she was only on breast milk, she would go pretty much with every feeding, i would say about at least 5 times a day.. you could try giving her probiotics, you can buy them at any health food store. these should help her with whatever bowel problems and discomfort she's been having. also, if you want her to poop more often, you can give her some light karo syrup, mix 1 teaspoon of syrup with 2 oz. of water and give her once or twice a day between feedings until she improves.

It is normal for her to have BM every 4 days some breastfeed babys will only go once every 10 days and this is still normal. Breast milk is just very well absorbed so there is nothing there to come out. Now on the other hand if she is bloated, having true cramps, and is gassy she could be having a food allergy so ask your pediatrician(also look for changes in the stool such as blood or excessive mucus). By the way my daugher sleeps just about as much. After 6 months she will be up a little more.

This happened with my daughter and she was so miserable. I ended up getting an infant enema and about 2 minutes later she pooped A LOT. She literally passed out from the relief. Then 10 minutes later she pooped even more. She never had a problem after that.
Remember that the loner it is in there the harder it gets. So if you get it all cleared out that might get her bowels functions back to normal.
As for the sleeping, my son woke up all the time and my daughters sleep through the night.

Ask your pediatrician if that much sleep is all right, I know from what we were told by our doctor that breast milk has much less waste in it than formula does, therefore causing fewer BM's, but 4 days with lots of bloating and discomfort doesn't seem right, although our daughter was an every other day'er, and her face would turn red and, for some reason, she always seemed to do it while being fed her bottle and would shoot milk out her nose.

First, stop the grape juice, give her rice water instead, that will stop the diarrhea, you can make the rice water just put two to three cups of water in a pan and boil til in bubles put just a small handful of regular rice in the boiling water till the water get a little white. Let the rice water cool and give her about 2 to 4oz instead of milk or grape juice for a couple of days and her diarrhea stops, also you can give her messed bananas, banns is good to make her stool solid. For the throwing up could be the grape juice, her system is not wanting it.This comes from a 59yr. old woman, who raised my children with nothing but home remides and believe they work better that all the drugs the dr. gives out. My boy are big and strong. They are now 40,38, and 32. Good luck and God bless you and your family.

DO NOT PANIC, but I would suggest going to your pediatrician as soon as possible. Had issues like this with my breastfed daughter, and she ended up being admitted for several days. Baby could be dehydrated, or simply have a feeding problem. The lethargy is a symptom of many things, so have baby checked out. Better safe than sorry! :)

The frequency of her bowel movements is fine, but I would guess that she's dehydrated. That's why she strains so hard--she's constipated because she's not getting enough fluid. That's always been my problem when my babies had this problem. It's an easy fix, too. Just nurse more often. Not longer, just more frequently. Really, try this before you do anything else. I bet it will help a gret deal.

The sleeping a lot sounds pretty normal, the bowel movements don't sound normal at all. I breastfed my children and it seemed like they had bowel movements several times a day. I think you should call your pediatrician, there could possibly be a blockage or something. I don't think you should panic, but Monday morning give the Dr.'s office a call.

please take your child to the doctor. blood in her stool is not good . she may not be getting enough milk. is her diaper wet. how many times do you change her a day.she should be changed six to ten times a day. she should not be sleeping 11 hours at a time. i don't want you to get up set only your doctor can tell if things are ok. tell him about your concerns and make him listen. she may not be geting enough milk.
