If I want to play volleyball for an international club and make a living, how good do I need to be?

Example answer: Most of the men's players on for the top 20 college teams here in the U.S. could go play internationally.

I don't agree with the answerer above me, The US men's collegiate game IS comparable to the rest of the world. It's the US women's collegiate game that is not.

Most players on D1 men's programs could find a roster spot on a league internationally. Some D2 and 3 players could also find a spot as well. As a matter of fact, I know a few players in NIRSA (College Intramural) that have gone on to play internationally.

The questioner did not ask if he could become a household name in internationally leagues, simply to just compete.

The problem is, however, that like the NBA, most European and Asian Volleyball leagues have limits on the amount of foreign players they will accept. You'll still have to work hard at every facet of your game to compete for a spot and let the chips fall where they may.

The answer would be more like maybe 3 or 4 players from the top 10 college teams could go play internationally.

International competition is on a completely different level then indoor ball in north america.

You are going to have to at least play at a D 1 school. More scouts look at the JO's (junior Olympics 17yr olds and 18) to recruit for the great programs in college. Once you have established yourself in school, Going over to Italy or Russia is up to you.
