My 31/2 old breastfeed daughter is sleeping a lot more than normally?
My daughter is 31/2 months and is sleeping a lot she has only been staying awake for an hour at a time, she normally will be a wake for 2 1/2 hours at a time or more, I think she may be going through a growth spirt, the only thing is she is eating less than normal, she has no fever or seems to be ill, is it possible for her to be going through a growth spirt even knowing she is not wonting to eat more

She is likely on the verge of having one of the bigger growth spurts that babies have during their first year. Three months of age is a very common time for a growth spurt to occur (you can expect another around her sixth month). My daughter had a massive growth spurt in her third month. She slept a lot the first few weeks, and then was starving all the time. Don't expect the reduction in feeding to last long, and for now just make sure she's urinating enough. Spend lots of time watching her while she sleeps, because she is going to change before your very eyes! Best of luck!

Same thing happened to my daughter when she was around 4 months and then again at 5 and 1/2. She would sleep all the time and when she was awake within an hour and 1/2 she would sleep again for like another 2 hours! But she was only eating half her normal amount and I was terrified, I took her to the doctors and nothing wrong, it was just a growth spurt like you said. You may want to take her in just in case to make sure it's not an ear infection, good luck.

Wow I think you took a page out of my book and wrote it down here!! I have a 2 month old and the same thing is going on with her!! She sleeps non-stop ..is only awake for about an hour then sleeps for at least an hour or longer and is sleeping through the night (no complaints there) She has stopped taking 4ozs of formula and only takes about 21/2 now!! I was told by my grandma its probably a growth spuirt!! She isnt actin like she doesnt feel well..she had a head cold but that has cleared up!! I guess we cant complain too much..at least they arent screaming all day!! Im pretty sure its perfectly normal!! As long as there is no temperature and she acts ok Im sure she is!! Good luck!!

How about this for an explanation? Its a brain growth spurt -her brain is working overtime and so she is sleeping more. Your brain is said to get smarter during sleep, make new connections, learn new things, etc. But the brain doesn't need more calories ;-)
Just keep an eye on her, make sure she is still peeing enough (not dehydrated) and seems ok when she is awake.

When babies goes through growth spurts they dont eat as much and sleep alot more. So it definitely sounds like a growth spurt. But, since she is sleeping more than usualy AND not eating as much, you may want to call your pediatrian and let them know. They might want to see her to rule out anything. But since you said she doesnt have a fever or seems to be ill, Im sure she is just fine! :)

When their brains are growing and maturing they sleep more, when their body is going through a spurt, they eat more.
