learning french?

i speak Haitian kreyol preety well becuase i have been living in Haiti and studying kreyol for nearly 4 years but my french isnt very advanced i have studied french a little and i understand alot do to my knowledge in kreyol and the little i have studied but my question is can i learn french from simply reading and listening to cassets and video, or will i need to be in a country that speaks french to really learn? because thats how it was learning kreyol, many people speak french in haiti but it seems pointless becuase 90 percent of the time its kreyol and if someone speaks french in haiti  good chance they know english so i switch back and forth between kreyol and english

I would suggest you to go in a French country to learn it. Since its really really hard to learn, even if you are French (like me), tapes and videos can only show you some words. In France, people don't like English folks, you'll probably need to go to Quebec in Canada to learn it, since its bilingual there and very welcoming.
