Would help if we knew Year, Make, Model, Engine. 305 (5.0L) Chevy's for example, were notorious for bad cams. If the oiling was good, it seems likely cam was original problem, or maybe sticky lifters?. Could be rockers bad or out of adjustment, depending on the engine.

Sounds like a 1968 or newer chevy.

The cam was bad the first time.

The lifters and cam wore out. you need to replace both.

did you by chance mix roller rockers with a flat-tappet cam? Did you lube up the cam enough? Are the valve lashs and springs correctly adjusted and torqued to specs?
