What is the best way to store lemons?

We usually keep ours on the bench, but we seem to have a glut of them at the moment; is it worth putting them into the fridge? Can they be frozen?

The best way I've found is to wash the lemons very well. I put essential lemon oil in the wash water, drain, rinse and dry them. Then I leave them in a bowl on the counter. The skin tends to get thinner over time, but the overall quality of the fruit is tangy and juicy. You may get some spoilage, but check daily and throw away any moldy fruit. I've kept citrus fruit fresh for up to two months. I find this method works for most vegetables, whether stored in the refrigerator or on the counter. I didn't try the fridge; maybe next year. I'm gonna plant me a lemon tree this fall!

Source(s): I live in the desert southwest and have friends with citrus trees.

    Storing Lemons

I would recommend storing them in the fridge. That's usually how we keep ours if we have more than two. Don't keep them at room temp around other fruit or they will ripen quickly and then rot. I would not freeze them, though I imagine if you're going to be using them in baking it might be okay -- I am sure the zest would survive being frozen but the inner fruit, perhaps not...

probably fridge. but make sure you dont leave them in for too long because they get moldy fast. you can probably leave them in for up to a bout 3 weeks before having to worry about them becoming moldy or spoiled.

Juice them ,freeze in ice trays, then bag them for later.
