What's a word to describe that sound you make when you're following the melody line?

You know when you just sound the notes of the melody line with something like "do-di-do, do-di", because something's stuck in your head: what is that called?

Update:

No, it's not humming. It's when you make a separate sound for every note.

Update 2:

Like "la la la" or "bom bom b-dom bom b-dom"

Ad-libbing, but not in the sense of making up words, you are just substituting the words with sounds.

You mean when you hum a melody?
