How many miles is too many 1994 Chevy 2500?

I am looking at a 1994 Chevy 2500 that was a fleet vehicle always maintained very well. It has 248,000 miles on it. It runs and drives great. Is this too many miles?

It is an auto transmission with a 350.

The biggest variable here, IMHO, is how the truck was maintained..if it has been neglected in any way shape or form..something is bound to give it up fairly soon.. fleet vehicles are normally maintained pretty well, but what I know from experience is they particularly neglect the transmissions..i was actually told by a rep once.. that they don't pay for fluid changes, because it's cheaper in the long run to just replace a transmission..:O.. the biggest areas to look at are the trans fluid... the color, and smell, tell you volumes about its' condition.....and look the engine over for any maintenance issues.. tune up.. filters.. and do a compression test.. that gives a good idea how healthy that small block is..they are very stout engines IMO, but at that mileage..a closer examination is warranted..they are also known for front end wear.. idler/ pitman arms, and ball joints. Ask for receipts.. a long and detailed paper trail shows that the previous owner looked after it... Have it looked over by an independent shop..and if in doubt.. don't hesitate to walk away
