How to get my team motivated...?

My volleyball team does pretty well the first game, but then slack off for the rest of it. They get really down on themselves, and i can't get them to try harder and/or cheer up. Then they get mad or upset, and the whole day is horrible. What can i do? Anything I say is just ignored or is snickered away. I'm tired of being on a losing team, so what do i say to get them to try harder, being nice?

it sounds like your team gets cocky after winning a game. when you get cocky, you slack off, and lots of times, you end up losing. if our team loses a close game, we come out playing hard and most times utterly destroy the other team. after one game, don't talk about how bad the other team is, talk about how good your team did, and encourage your teammates to play better. try to run a new play with your setter, that always picks our team up. a great moral booster is a little play we call the phantom. when your setter is front row, have your libero go in for a one, the middle for a three, and the outside a four. the other teams middle is listening for the one being called out and goes up with the libero. you get an awesome kill every time. try it, it has gotten our team out of ditches many times, and usually after we run the phantom, the other team calls a time out to discuss how to block against it. use this as a morale boost by yelling. there are lots of other ideas, too. make up cheers that you do every play. these can focus your team on unity and winning. good luck with your teams attitude.

WE have the SAME problem!!! We get too cocky most of the time. between games talk about your team and tell them that ya we are better than this team, but dont play down to their level! one thing our team does is if we hit someone in the face then we get a piece of pie! give your team some incentive to win!

I know bribery is wrong, but it totally works on my club team!

Offer to buy them cookies/donughts/slurpees if they win.

And if you win/have a winning streak go out for a team dinner.

    Cheer alot!
