Where is the best place to stay in Las Vegas OFF the Strip?

When staying in Las Vegas for a week or more, Staying on the Strip gets old. Any suggestions?

Update:

Let me re-emphasize: The BEST place to stay off of the Strip. Sams Town is not the caliber I am seeking.

The best kept secret for this is private vacation homes. There are some in fantastic local neighborhoods, and just about anywhere in LV you can get to the Strip in 15 minutes if you want to.

I live in LV and have referred several people chezpaulina dot com for this. They have several houses that are completely decked out, with free high speed wireless internet, free long distance calls to most countries, cable, total luxury, costs less too.

Have stayed at the Orleans and Rio. Like the Rio much better. Both have shuttles to the strip. The Rio/Harrah's shuttles are more frequent and run later. The Rio is within walking distance of the Palms and Gold Coast. If you want a side trip to the Orleans there is a shuttle from the Gold Coast. I like the atmosphere and variety of restaurants and entertainment at the Rio. Rooms are larger at the Rio but the cost would be less at the Orleans.

Haven't stayed at Sam's but have been there to play. AP transportation is more expensive to Sam's (if you're not renting a car). Sam's does have free shuttles to the strip and Fremont but I don't think they run as late or as frequent as Rio. I have read good things about Sam's accommodations but can't speak from experience.

If you've never stayed on Fremont, consider the Gold Nugget. It's great. Fremont is a lot of fun and perfectly safe as long as you don't stray out from the Fremont Experience canopy at night. Have made many trips to LV by myself and have stayed Strip, Fremont, Rio and Orleans. Not a problem.

    Hope this helps.

Greenvalley Ranch is a great place to stay in Henderson then there is Red Rock Canyon Casino in Summerlin. Both are Station's properties and are very nice places to stay. They are of a higher caliber from most local casinos. A bit pricey but worth it. You will be pampered there. These locations will put you more into the real Vegas. A short drive to the strip if you want to go once in awhile. I assure you will enjoy either of these properties.

Try the less expensive hotels down by the Fremont St. experience area. I have always stayed down there when visiting Las Vegas and the rooms were cheap, it was a safe area and the city bus terminal is within a block of Fremont.St so that you can catch a ride to the strip.

Try one of the local casinos in the are of The Strip ....... Orleans, South Point, Gold Coast. The very best is Red Rock Resorts or Green Valley Ranch; but those are 20 minutes in either direction.

red rock casino is the best off strip hotel in my opinion. you can look at the rooms on their website redrocklasvegas.com. i love the way the rooms are decorated. the tub is huge, definitely big enough for two, and there's a flatscreen above the tub. separate shower, two bathrobes, 42" flatscreen in the room, yummy room service, nice staff.

i like the canyon view rooms, i'm sick of looking at the strip.

also, red rock is in summerlin. way better neighborhood than most of the other off strip hotels. i don't know about green valley ranch, i think that one is in a nice neighborhood also.

but i would stick with red rock.

Sam's Town is always a safe bet. They have free shuttles all day long and their room rates are great during the week.

I've stayed there 3 times, never disappointed.
