wireless av transmitter and bad reception - like electrical interferance?

what could be causing this? the transmitter / receiver are about 15m apart. through two single brick walls. is it the distance or the fact that the signal needs to go through walls??? help please!

Update:

yes, we do have a cordless phone system in the house, but i don't think it's in the direct 'line' of the av transmitter and receiver.

they aren't battery either.

distance could be an issue, if battery powered, that can be an issue, the brick walls don't help and RF interference is a factor. If it is a radio shack special you really can't expect too much out of them. They do sell av transmitters professionally that will go great distances for a couple hundred dollars.

Check out CCTVwarehouse.com. You'll be able to find something to suit your need and they sell to the public.

There are many possibilities of the cause of this, which doesn't make it easy to track down! They are:

    1) A nearby radio or TV transmitter - there's one near my house and it does cause difficulties depending on the weather.

    2) The walls: although many speaker manufacturers say walls are no problem, actually, they are, and they will nearly always affect the signal strength to some degree.

    3) Mobile phones or cordless phones in the house.

    4) Your fridge or freezer could even cause interference.

    5) Wires parallel to the wire to the transmitter - a common source of noise in standard hifi setups too.

    6) A neighbour with wireless RF setup.

    7) Wifi wireless computer networks.

If you can rule all these out, by trying the speakers in the same room as the transmitter initially, then going through the others, well, you may end up with an interference free system, hopefully!

Do you have any cordless phones?

That and your av transmitter may be sharing the same frequency ie. 2.4 gigahertz.

If you do have cordless phone/s, try switching them off to see if there is any improvement.

Would love to know if this helps.

    All the best.
