MS Word 2007: Have you encountered the problem where spell check simply stops spell-checking?

Have you encountered the problem where Spell Check simply stops spell checking for a paragraph or two but it works fine for subsequent paragraph?

Additionally, when I cut-and-paste a misspelled word from the unaffected paragraph to the non-working-spell-check paragraph, the cut-and-pasted word continues to be indicated as misspelled but the other offending words in that paragraph continue to be not-underlined as wrong.

I tried resetting the dictionary settings to no avail. Tried to undo all character properties for that paragraph (changed to "normal") to no avail.

How did you resolve it?

God!! I hate Office 2007!!

Update:

All right, I've found the solution, but I will leave the question up in case someone else comes across the same situation.

Apparently, something happened and the dictionary for that paragraph was set to "Do not check spelling or grammar" and "Detect language automatically."

Don't know why or how it happened but MS Office 2007 sucks anyway.

So here's the answer:

• Alt+A to select the entire Word document.

• Click on the Review tab.

• In the Proofing group, click on "Set Language."

• Select "English (United States)" (for us Yanks).

• UNCHECK "Do not check spelling or grammar."

• UNCHECK "Detect language automatically.

Done...and stupid!

If it makes you feel any better, it's not only in Office 2007... I have '03, I've had that happen. And there are times where Word simply changes the language to French for two paragraphs and then back to English - 'cause it just feels like it. I hate Office... 2007 is worse than anything else though.

I think your global template got set up with a Do Not Check Spelling for the entire document. Try this to fix it: 1. Press CTRL/A to select the entire document. 2. Click the Review tab on the Ribbon. 3. Click the Set Language icon in the Proofing group. 4. Make sure the Do Not Check Spelling checkbox is UNchecked. (I expect it to be checked.) 5. Click the Default button. This should make the condition "permanent". 6. Click OK. Hope that helps.
