WHat sort of skateboard should I buy?

I'm not at all interested in doing ollies or any kind of kick flips or anything.

All I want to do is pump around concrete bowls and do berts.

I used to have a Natas board in 1989 which was a bit wider than the boards around today. Do I really need a 7.75" wide board with a kick at either end?

Or would I be better off getting an old 80's style board that's 9 or 10 inches wide and has just one kick at the tail?

Does wider board = easier to not fall off?

I'm 30 and haven't skated in over 15 years, so I'm content to just pump and carve around mellow concrete parks like dogtown and z-boys

I would say for old school skate boarding like that you should go with a sidewalk surfer. They aren't as good for ollie's and some of the new tricks like that, but for what you want to do it would be perfect. The down side to that kind of skate board is that will most likely cost more.
