Hmmm. It depends where you live. I live in Slovenia, and Boštjan (pronounced Boshtyan) is a perfectly good boys name here. It wouldn't work in England though. Unless you live in a Geman speaking country, I would pick something else...

The name "Otto" is of course, one of personal preference. It has several meanings, one which is of "Old German origin" meaning "wealth". It also comes from the "Finnish" background as well. This is very common in English-speaking countries until Otto Von Bismarck's German armies became threateningly powerful in the early 20th century, and the name had lost its popularity. Ottone is the Italian form. Regardless of its past history, it still is a very strong and impressive name in the European cultures.

No. I think of Otto as more of a name for a pet, not a human.

Otto is one of my guilty pleasure names. I'm not German enough to pull it off.

If you have German ancestory, it would be a cool, quirky name to give a boy. Otherwise, it would seem to be an odd choice, unless you used it as a middle name.

Any name you name a child is personal to you...do not name a child after someone just because you think it's cool. See how it sounds with your last name. There are too many common names out there and this is not uncommon but somewhat unique.....go for it for the right reasons.

In Italian "otto" means "eight". Would you want to call your son after a number? lol.
