Transfering the running gear from an (Australian) el fairmont, into an xf Fairmont ghia.Has anyone done this?

I have a 87 Fairmont Ghia, have had it for years and it goes well, but lacks power compaired to my 97 el Fairmont.

I would like to fit an el motor and 4 speed trans into it, but have been told there are major problems.

Someone told me that the ford ute's used the xf chassis right through to 98, and to copy the mounting points, and brackets off a ute.??

I really need to talk to someone who has carried out this swap, from start to finish, what electrical fittings had to be fitted, and how it went passing a roadworthy.

Thanks in advance.

Here is the easiest way for you to do your project. If you were planning on stripping your el for the xf, sell it instead. this will give you money to buy a damaged or rusty xg or xh panel van or ute. The xg uses the ea-ed overhead cam and 4 speed set up, while i believe the xh uses the ef-el motor. (not much difference anyway) i own an xg and have owned xf's before. The xg-xh uses the xf ute or van bodyshell, which means that by buying one of these, it will give you all the wiring, brackets etc, as well as the motor and box, and it will simply bolt straight in! no mucking around with custom brackets, wiring etc. This also means that if you need any replacement parts, it's all factory too! once it is finished, all you need to do is have it checked by a certified RTA engineer, and you'll have yourself one very neat car. If your handy with tools, you could probably have this done within a week. Hope this helps.

G'day fellow Aussie, from Qld. I have heard of a friend of mine doing a similar project although I did not have a hand in doing the swap I unerstand that all of the electrics that are needed to run the motor and or auto are needed to complete the swap. What I am saying is that every electrical item that is for the motor and or gearbox needs to taken from the fairmont and put into the xf. bloody good choice of swap also, more torque and kw
