Will be visiting Portland in July...any places to eat that I cannot miss?

Where do you recommend to eat...breakfast? Lunch? Dinner? Do you have any favorites that I have to try?

Update:

Sorry, I assumed that Portland meant Portland, Oregon.

well this section is for portland oregon, not portland maine. if you come here you have to eat at city grill, the food is meh ok, but the view is so fantastic, great happy hour from 4-6 daily. there's the pied cow, rimskys korsikoffs for deserts and good old fashioned portlandy-ness. in town, the breakfasts at any of the bigger hotels are fantastic, try beesaws in NW if you want to venture out. The brazillian grill is great for a meat-tastic meal. for drinks try brazen bean for there delicious and quite potent infused cocktails. also try 820, fantastic lamb burger and award winning cocktails. wild abandon is fantastic with one of the coolest decks as does siam society. for some good asian try pho oregon, or try biwan which is a new noodle shop with very slurpable noodles. there's really really too many restraunts to choose from, if you narrow it down i can add more.

Portland is a wonderful city for dining out. Here are some classics you should not miss:

Heathman Hotel Restaurant for breakfast. It's a little spendy but you cannot leave Portland without eating smoked salmon hash and they make it in house.

Pho Van - an authentic Vietnamese restaurant and the city's best. Have the Pho beef noodle soup for lunch

McMenamin's on Market Street (there are many restaurants in this Portland-based chain) for burgers and fries. This is a classic Portland brew pub. Go here for lunch or dinner.

Harborside down on the Willamette River waterfront. This restaurant has the most extensive seafood menu in the city and really showcases the excellent seafoods of the Pacific Northwest.

Pearl Bakery in the Pearl District. This bakery took top prize in a competition in Paris, France two years ago and has bread/pastries you won't believe. Go for wonderful espresso drinks and a breakfast treat.

Bijou Cafe - long time favorite of Portlanders for breakfast

Veritable Quandry - wonderful food, but known most for being a bar where the powerbrokers hang out. the cocktails are outstanding.

Portland has some of the best food in the country! Here are some favorites...Not sure what your price range is, though...and remember citysearch.com is a great resource to look at...

    DINNER

Higgins - The BEST in NW cuisine. Local, organic, great wine list, and always one or two veggie options.

Park Kitchen - Delicious! Chef was just nominated for the James Beard award for NW chef.

Chaba Thai - Best Thai food in PDX

Giorgio's - Great food. Chef used to work at Per Se in NYC (one of the best places in the world to eat). Food here is awesome.

    LUNCH

Bower's Bakery - Located on Hawthorne. A small little bakery with the BEST sandwhiches.

Grand Central Bakery - A few of them in town...good lunch spot

    BREAKFAST

Oh my...there are SOOOOOO many...it would really depend on where you are staying and how far you are willing to go. Breakfast is everywhere in this city and there are tons of places that are great.

Be sure to go to Higgins...It's really the best. You can sit in the bar or make a reservation for the restaurant. Don't forget about brew pubs (microbrews galore) in Portland. Check out cityserach.com and have fun!

If you refer to Portland, Oregon, I'd recommend the waterfront

downtown location of Newport Bay on the Willamette River.

There's a nice view of the marina and the boats going by.

They have a good Happy Hour menu in the bar section to try for their budget priced entrees. I believe $2.49 an entree and

a discount on well drinks. The restaurant has the same great

food but not at this low bargain price. They have a few other locations in the Portland area also.

There is the Golden Crown for traditional Chinese in

Beaverton, where you get more than you pay for. And Azteca

for Mexican food in the same area. If you like fondue, there

is the new location of the Melting Pot fondue restaurant. I know the owner and this is his second "Pot" and doing much

better in his new location. But the prices are very very high.

But they make a terrific mushroom salad and some go there

just for that, breadsticks and a glass of wine. It's an 'experience' for a special occasion.

There are alot of upscale restaurants in the Pearl District

too, tho it's out of my league. We do like the ribs at Apple-

bys, that we have enjoyed when they have all you can eat

night for them. Tony Romas' we were disappointed in, so we

never went back, tho they are known for their ribs specifically.

We felt the price too high for the amount of ribs we got.

We like the burger on the bar menu at Sanfords, they have

a few different locations also. We usually eat at the location

at Jantzen Beach Mall. They have a great Happy Hour menu

and they're owned by the same people who own Newport Bay. Some people love the food at the McMennimans locations. My daughter loves their onion rings :).

These suggestions will I'm sure, please your taste buds.

The Tin Shed on NE Alberta is a great breakfast spot, but can sometimes have long waits especially on the weekends.

Pambiche is a Cuban restaurant on NE Glisan that is really fun, great food that is interesting for lunch or dinner.

Olea in the Pearl district is good, Pho Van for great vietnamese food..Lemongrass has great Thai food.

Portland City Grill has a decent happy hour as does Oba.

Even though some people have recommended McMenamins, I've never really thought they had very good food. A few items are alright, but most are just your basic pub type food they do have good beer and a great atmosphere though.

If ur talking about Portland, OR then i would say McMenamins, they have a whole bunch but the Kennedy School is the best i think. It used to be an old school. But turned into a McMenamins , its also a hotel (u stay in the old class rooms, its So cool!) oh yeah it has a movie theater also were you can take their food in and eat it while watching a movie. The foods good 2, Their famous for their Tater Tots and brewyers Salad with a Rasberry Vinergrett MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!! Yummmmm! Good luck!!!

Portland is amazing for dining out, and it won't be too hard to find good places to eat.

    Breakfast

Stepping Stone Cafe- I always get the banana bread french toast, but I'm told everything else is good. Its NW

Voodoo donut, its on 3rd downtown. Very Portland, and they have bacon maple bars.

    Lunch

Michael Italian Sausage company on 11th and Sandy on the eastside of the river.

I recommend the Italian beef or the combo tell them to dunk it (they dunk the whole sandwich in the au jus without the roll getting mushy)

Nicholis (i think I spelled it wrong) its on SE stark. Best Lebanese food in town. The mezzas are great, and so is the Stephen's beef. Good for dinner also, but its always packed and cash only.

    Dinner

Cafe mingo in the NW- country Italian

Noble Rot on SE 28th and Amekany. Little wine bar featuring lots of local wines, and small plates. Not cheap, but very reasonable priced. I recently went there with a party of 7, and we ordered everything on the menu including deserts and specials and everything was good.

Le pigeon on E Burnside. This restaurant specializes in unusual parts of various animals. Check out their website if your Adventist. I'm told they do an excellent brunch minus the less conventional cuts of meet.

It depends on which Portland you are talking about. If you are talking about Maine, you have to catch DiMillo's in the Old Port. If you are talking about the one on the other coast...no clue.
