Actually those characteristics are somewhat prerequisite in learning anything. To be instructed one has to have the humility to submit to instruction. In particular it seems everything hinges on humility. For without humity one would not be teachable, nor would they seek God, nor trust Him.

wow this is exactly what we were discussing at work today.

Yes it is. Jesus said in Matthew11:15

"I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.

    and

    Matthew 18:13

"I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven."

Jesus obviously had great admiration for a child's sincere heart of faith.

Simple, quaint, understanding, trusting, faithful, truthful and sincere. THAT is how to understand God's word.

    good question

    blessings :)

The bible says to be as a child. Why? Because we can't see Him right now. We have to go by faith. Our pride does not like this. So we must humble our self. (pride)

Then we are ready to learn about Him and what is required. The more we learn about Him the more we can trust Him. The bible was written by people as the Spirit of God inspired them. So, it is God's Word to us. When we begin to trust Him, we will better understand His bible.

So then faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. One becomes humble when one reconized that they can do nothing of themselves. Jesus said " the branch cannot do nothing apart from the tree except withered and die." "But the Comforter which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, He shall teach you all things..." May I suggest you read the book of John in the Holy Bible.

We also need the power of discernment.

Experience gives us the ability to see and trust those without motive - those who are truly of God.

Also we have the need to see that people are human and make human mistakes.

Pride keeps a person from admitting they are wrong. A teacher of God will admit they have made a mistake.

A Concordance would help. They give cross references and explain customs and phrases.

NO beliefs have very little to do with understanding
