Boogie woogie piano artist?

Can anyone name me an old boogie woogie piano artist?

Also, what are some related genres of music?

John Lee Hooker was the creator of Boogie Woogie.

George Frayne and Jools Holland have also been credited with keeping the style going.

The Japanese female garage rockers 5,6,7,8's have also recently had great success with their boogie woogie sound, epitomized in "Woo Hoo," a song prominently featured in Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill.

Also, during a Led Zeppelin recording of How the west was won, the 3rd CD first track includes a tribute to this boogie and also it's creator John Lee Hooker

Here is a list of all of the Boogie Woogie Musicians

Ragtime and Honky Tonk would be its most related genre, as well as Blues and Jazz.

To advance, I'd look on youtube for right hand boogie woogie vids if I were you. There are a tonne and they will teach you everything you need to know. There's not many teachers who are willing to teach improv and those that do will keep whittling on about how difficult it is and it will take you years, blah blah blah. Nonsense. Think of it a bit like having a bunch of lego bricks that you can fit together differently each time to make something new. Improv is really just a combination of licks and tricks that you've learnt along the way, which you decide how to put together. You're never *really* creating something new as you go along, you have to have been taught it all at some point. So the answer to getting better at improv is just keep learning more right hands, learn little fill ins and licks, keep trying to play different combos together - you'll soon start fitting them together in new combinations and you'll be there.

Fats Waller and PineTop Smith would be 2 "old" boogie woogie artists. Of course they both do allot more than boogie!

And to that I would add that most early bebop era pianists were very proficient boogie woogie players.

The closest related genre would be the blues. Or should I say Boogie woogie IS the blues with repetitive bass phrases.

    Happy listening!

The best one that comes to mind is Jerry Lee Lewis.
