Australian Ford Motor.?

I recently bought a 97 Fairmont, after a few days I noticed the motor had developed a knock, low down in the block.

I changed the oil for Ford recommended, this quitened it a bit but after a thousand kms its back.

My suspicions are a noisy gudgeon, I have been told its a cam follower, oil pump, run big end bearing, etc, but no ones sure without pulling the motor down.

Car is going great, lots of power, and the noise doesn't get any worse.

Anyone had this problem, and is there a quick fix.

I don't think there is any fix without pulling the motor down, it might be cheaper to replace it with a rebuild short motor. Could be a good idea if the rest of the car is OK. You might get a few dollars on the motor as is, but not if a conrod gets loose. Severe damage will make the engine worthless as a trade in. Cam followers on these motors can be dodgy.
