Dummy levers are just for looks, they are usually for closet doors. The doors are held by magnets or other ball and groove latches on the top of the door. The decorative levers are used so that all of your interior passage doors are the same.

    Just for looks mostly.

A dummy level can also be used on french doors, regular knob on one dummy lever on the other.

A dummy lever just screws into the door, no guts in it.

There should be a paper template with the new lock that you can use to mark the door. While the interior door is hollow it will have a wood block for you to screw into at the height that locks are normally mounted at. I personally would mark the spot and then drill a very small starter hole to ensure proper alignment. Use two wood screws to attach the lever and your done. If for some reason you miss the wood block and end up at a hollow spot, use a short molly bolt fastener.
