  • Why is a referendum on gay marriage not the answer?

Rodney Croome, the national convenor of Australian Marriage equality, has said: "We have consistently opposed a national plebiscite or referendum on marriage equality for a number of reasons".

Is this because it asks the majority and not a minority to make the choice?

  • Should Christopher Pyne apologise?

Should Opposition frontbencher Christopher Pyne apologise to the German people for comparing the pitiful and lamentable Federal Labor Government to a scene from Downfall, a movie about the collapse of Hitler's Third Reich?

  • Why are the West Australian (aka Yahoo 7) so selective about what news items they allow comments on?

They seem to limit comment to superficial issues, barely worth commenting on.

  • Brining in Afrikaners to Australia?

A large number of South African (Afrikaner) workers are currently being allowed into Australia under concessional visas. Is it right that a group of intellectualy challenged people that have f*cked up their own country should be allowed to enter another for a second try? Especially when its an Afrikaner owned South African company that is sponsoring them!

  • Was Amy in the same league?

Aw c'mon, can anyone suggest she was even close to making the 27 club????

Rolling Stones founding member Brian Jones, guitarist Jimi Hendrix, singer Janis Joplin, The Doors singer Jim Morrison and Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain are the other major "members" of the ill-fated club.

  • Is terrorism ever acceptable?

Never mind all the hysterics about invasion and such, is this much different?

More than 100 years after his death, the story of Indigenous warrior Jandamarra will tonight be brought to life in the remote Kimberley gorge where he lived and died.

Jandamarra led the resistance movement against colonial authorities in the late 1800's and was killed near Windjana gorge.

A theatre adaptation of his life played in Broome last week, but for the next six nights, a theatre adaptation of his story will be performed inside the gorge, 100 km north of Fitzroy Crossing.

June Oscar belongs to the Bunuba people for whom Jandamarra was a lawman.

She says it is a wonderful thing to be able to tell his story in his own country.

"It's special for us to be here to see the story as it's played out on the magnificent and spectacular stage that's been created," she said.

"For the spirits that lived and dwelled in the country, to hear the language sounds and names of people long gone being called out and spoken here, it's special to us in many ways."

  • Mandatory sentencing - have pollies lost the plot?

At least one state has implemented mandatory sentencing for injuring public officers, NSW now is talking about mandatory life for murder of public officers. My question is two-fold:

    1. Is this an admission that the judiciary and legal system have lost the plot and are unable to deal with rising crime? If not, then what is the purpose of mandatory sentencing?

    2. Is your or my life worth less than a traffic warden, court baliff or policeman? If not, then why not?

  • Does redirection annoy you as well?

I find it annoying that I am constantly redirected to the Yahoo7 page when I have entered a specific Yahoo URL. If I want to look at the US page I should be able to type www.yahoo.com and not get redirected to the 7 page, if I want the UK I should be able to type www.yahoo.co.uk and not get redirected back to 7.

Does anyone else find this very annoying?

  • Is Dick Smith right for once?

I have rarely agreed with Dick Smith on a number of issues, particularly aviation safety. However do you think he is might be right this time on a sustainable population?

    Quote from ABC News:

Mr Smith, who has long advocated for a population cap, says the (Labor goverment) strategy amounts to "moving deck chairs on the Titanic".

"We're not actually wealthier because we have more people," he said.

"We make our money from agriculture and digging bits and pieces out of the ground. You don't actually need too many people to do that."

Mr Smith says any move to create sustainable population growth is "impossible".

  • Should transportation be applied in reverse?

We have more and more criminals these days and now finally scumbag graffiti criminals are being sent to gaol. Should we look at sending some of our crims back to Great Britain as pay back?

  • What else should we ban?

Currently its suggested that lazer pointers should be banned for the risks they present to pilots. How about we ban knives, they are after all a major crime issue. Then perhaps forks, because if we don't have knives we may resort to forks. Chopsticks could be the go, but like knitting needles they present a risk to aircraft.

So how far do we go with bans before our wimpy, PC driven legal system starts to get some balls our put the crims where they really belong?

  • Should good driving be encouraged?

Rather than just penalising drivers for infringements, should we reward good drivers as an incentive. A good practice in dealing with all people is to encourage good behaviour, but the norm is punish. Should people earn CTP insurance discounts, extra points or other financial benefits for good driving records?

Insurance No Claim discounts are a good example, but that is not a government provided benefit.

  • At what point do other options become ethical?

In 'Western' cultures we have become reliant on the police to maintain law and order. However, if they are unable to effectively do this, be it due to resources, response times and such, at what point does it become ethically acceptable for reasonable citizens to implement measures outside of conventional policing?

  • Is a vote for Labor a vote for the burkah?

The current furor about the 'spoof' flyer in Queensland raises an interesting question. Whilst many of Labor's 'died in the wool' electors are actually rabid racists, the face of Labor is very 'PC'. How will Kevin reconcile the contradiction, cope with illegal immigration and such issues?

Will a vote for Labor be a vote for the burka brigade?

  • Is voting Labour an affliction?

A good friend reckons that voting Labour (Labor for the spelling challenged) is an affliction arising from birth. I can see his point as you'd have to be a numpty (or morally corrupt, I mean totally corrupt not just nice Liberal chummy) to be a candidate.

I reckon that voting labour should be a hanging offence due to its blatant disregard for the common good of the nation and its resultant treasonable leanings.

  • Where to holiday in Asia/Pacific in September?

We take a short break each September for our anniversary. So far we have been to Asian destinations like Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. We like to go to Asia again. Can someone recommend another destination where the weather is reasonable at that time of year and isn't just a beach resort?

  • Should the US be allowed to export TV shows?

Around 60% of TV here tonight is of US origin and it is so bad. They have to tell you what is going to happen in the show and even when to laugh. Are people really that brain dead in the US?

  • Is corruption and gambling spoiling cricket in Asia?

Cricket in Asia seems to be riddled by corruption founded on gambling. The Woolmer incident may be yet another example of how money is spoiling sport. Should the loyal cricket fans be asking their cricket administrations what they are doing about it?
