  • What s the "Best" service manual for a 200 Ford Ranger?

Though I would have answered "the Factory Service Manual" previously - I now have one (on CD) and it s cryptic and almost unusable. I also have the Haynes manual. Also not good.

Trying to troubleshoot a cold starting issue that I think is timing-related.

Where can I find a good explanation about what sensor does what and how to test them?

  • Replacement - New or Rebuilt - Auto Seats?

I have a 2000 Ford Ranger with 250,000 miles that is still in great shape and has zero rust. The driver's seat is broken down to the point that I'm sitting on the metal frame. Aside from boneyards, are replacement new or rebuilt seats available? How about supplies for rebuilding them?

  • What's a good software package to use with a handheld GPS to make maps of your property?

I have a Garmin 60CSx that I'd like to use to make a map of my property with locations of fences and buildings. Suggested software?

  • What's a top-performing Android Smartphone that's now obsolete?

I can't afford the latest and greatest, but have good luck with ones people abandon for the latest model. What's a good one that's been superseded? I'll look for it on eBay!

  • Colt Replica Black Powder kits?

I remember back in the 80's I bought a cheap Italian-made Black Powder Colt Navy revolver kit. It had all the parts - but rough - and needed to be filed, sanded, fitted, finished, etc. It was cheap - I'm *thinking* like $20 - *maybe* as much as $50. The kit was no prize, but it went together OK and looked pretty good when I finished it.

Nowadays, I look for one and I see prices like $200 and up!

Are the "cheap" (admittedly low-quality) ones still available, or have prices really gone up that much?

I'm not looking for a museum piece - just something to shoot!

    Ideas?

  • Hankook Optima H724 - Noisy Tire?

I just replaced a set of Hankook Optima H724 tires on my 2000 Ford Ranger XLT with 235,000 miles on it. The front end was about worn out last summer, so I replaced ball joints and upper control arms and had an alignment done. These tires had already born the brunt of the old front end and had worn unevenly. The old times showed some camber wear, but also had a lot of high/low spots and were quite noisy - a regular road-speed "thump" or rumble, and at least two of the tires had visible "hop" or other evidence of cords that were letting go.

Against my better judgement, I replaced them with the same brand. (cost motivation) and the glowing reports of the tire guy. Needless to say, I had the alignment checked and it was off a little (in spite of a recent alignment and a tight front end - and no accidents!) but is well within spec now.

Unfortunately , the new tires are noisy as well! I can hear that road-speed rumble/thump with less than 20 miles on the truck.

I looked at reviews, but nobody hardly anybody else mentions this noise of unusual tire wear.

Anybody else out there have issues with this tire? I'm getting tired of a noisy ride, concerns about tires failing, alignments every 6 months, and getting 30-40K miles out of a "70,000 mile tire".

  • How to politely tell an adult that you have no influence over that they should chew with their mouth closed?

My wife's adult (~40 y/o) son from a previous marriage is an occasional extended-stay guest to our home. He definitely doesn't have a lot of social graces, is moody, coarse on occasion, and easily gets defensive. Most of these can be "steered" or at lest mitigated, but one bad habit is impossible to overlook as it is constantly renewed each mealtime - he chews with his mouth open - very noisily and it practically does "spoil my appetite".

The problem is, that this guy is(?) an adult, nearly impossible to "coach", and will likely just start an argument if anyone brings up this problem.

Can anyone offer any tactful, effective suggestions that might bring about some improvement?

  • Looking for a liquid-dispensing flea comb?

Once upon a time (maybe even 20 years ago) I bought a plastic "flea comb" that had a hollow handle you could fill with liquid flea medication. The comb has porous bristles that "leaked" out the flea stuff as you combed your cat or dog.

I'm trying to find another one of these but search as I might - not one surfaces. All I've found is patent applications for "Liquid dispensing combs" - interesting, but not very helpful.

Does anyone have a link to a place that sells one?

  • What is involved with repairing the tracks on a John Deere 850 track loader that has run out of adjustment?

What is involved with repairing the tracks on a John Deere 850 track loader that has run out of track adjustment?

Though I have zero experience with tracked vehicles, I am an auto mechanic and have tools except for any specialized ones.

The story on this is that a friend has one of these that he will let me have gratis if I can address the track problem. I'm looking to do a good job, but to do it as inexpensively as possible. Is "rebuilding" tracks something that can be done by an individual with normal facilities - or does it take a specialized shop? How about the parts? Are they likely to be hugely expensive? Is this a matter of replacing some pins and buchings, or something more involved than that?

    Thanks for any information!

  • Looking for an NIV "Annotated Study Bible"?

I have an older (1988) KJV "Annotated Study Bible" by Thomas Nelson publishing that I really like a lot. I see it was also published as the "Liberty Study Bible.

I'm trying to find a NIV bible in a similar format with footnotes and definitions, geographical explanations, etc - but Nelson apparently doesn't publish one.

This would be a gift for a middle-age recovering Christian, so good suggestions for someone who is curious, went to church as a kid but never understood why, etc - would be great.

Hardcover that can be put in a nice cover would be great. Leather is not necessary!

  • Affordable air rifles NOT made by Umarex?

I recently purchased a Ruger Air Hawk Elite rifle manufactured under license by Umarex (made in China) I am as disappointed by it as I could be. My own fault - thinking that I could get a "good" air rifle for $180...

At any rate - now I'm looking for a GOOD air rifle that is still affordable. The first criteria would be NOT MADE BY UMAREX!

    Who can suggest one?

I'd like one with fairly high power (1,000 fps in .177 caliber) and though "they" say that break-barrel rifles are accurate - I'd prefer one where the barrel stays in alignment with the receiver/scope.

Are any of the German or British ones affordable?

    Other options?

    Thanks!

  • Looking for a "medium duty" chipper shredder for branches and saplings?

I have a VERY large yard (like 40 acres) and it's mostly overgrown with scrubby trees and brush. Most of it is small - like 1-3" in diameter. Though I'm harvesting what I can for firewood from the areas I want to clear, I have a LOT of brush and pruned branches to dispose of and I'd rather turn them into wood chips than burn them.

I'm looking for a "medium duty" chipper/shredder - one larger than the home handyman ones powered by a lawn mower engine - but I don't need one of those monsters the powerline companies use. I can't seem to find anything in between - seems they're either too small, or WAY too big.

I currently have an older Toro one with a 3-1/2HP vertical shaft engine. It does a fair job of shredding leaves and garden waste, but isn't up to handling branches much over 3/4". It also requires constant tending/feeding and that can get a little dangerous if a branch kicks back. Something "self-feeding" would be a blessing.

    Any suggestions!?

    Thanks

  • Can you suggest an aftermarket aperture sights for Marlin 780 rifle?

I recently acquired a great little .22LP rifle - Marlin 780. It seems to shoot pretty straight, but I don't care for the sights much.

I was hoping to find a set of aperture (peep) sights for this rifle.

I was steered to a Williams WGRS-54 which is a rear peep sight that fits the dovetail on the receiver - but it doesn't have the fine adjustment I'd like - and I'd have to find a higher front sight as well.

Anybody know of a click-adjustable rear peep sight & (if necessary) a complementing front sight - preferably a hooded one - that will fit this rifle? It really should be a no-drilling installation as well. (pick, pick, pick!)

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

  • Looking for an economical handheld GPS for mapping or surveying?

I'm looking for a handheld GPS or possibly a card or accessory for a laptop or PDA (Treo, Blackberry, Palm Pilot, etc) to use do some mapping and casual "surveying" of a piece of rural property.

Basically want to mark the location of features on a piece of property - creeks, gullies, trees, easements, well, outbuildings, etc.

Any ideas? Economy (read: "cheap") is the prime factor, though the ability to record paths and locations and transfer the information to a laptop is important as well.

If you wanted to take a handheld GPS out walking a large tract of land, what would it be?
