I'm a student, a freshman in college, majoring in Geology. I enjoy science and plan to aspire a career as a geologist once I graduate. My love is in animals and I do one day hope to have enough to open my own rescue center or something that has to do with the welfare of animals. I have 3 pets as of now, the family cat Chester, who is 13 yrs young, and my two wonderful guinea piggies Cinnamon & Calypso. I am pretty knowledgeable about Guinea Pigs and know a bit from experience about cats. I adore my animals and will always have pets in my life.

  • How to make a stubborn dog listen to commands?

We have two dogs, one boy, one girl. They are my roommates' dogs specifically. The boy is the good one, very energetic and hyper, but he listens when you give him a command, and will give you your space if you tell him to go lay down, etc.

The problem one, is way stubborn, and incredibly needy and attention seeking. If you would pet her 24/7 she would be happiest. She has learned from her actual owner (my roommate) that she doesn't have to listen to get the affection she wants. She gives her a command, she doesn't do it, so she repeats it a few times and gives up when she doesn't do it, then pets/plays with her anyways. She does listen better to me, but not by much, and I don't really know how to teach her she needs to listen to things the first time it's said...

  • How to get student loans without a cosigner? Can't pay for school... :(?

The short story is I completed 2 semesters at KSU and it was costing my parents $3300 a semester out of pocket.

I left that school to another smaller, cheaper, less substantial university that was like $900 a semester after financial aid. I hated it, and it didn't support my major like the other school.

While in the cheaper school I got a part time job, and a credit card to start building my credit. After one semester there, I left to just work as much as possible and save money.

Almost a year later, I have $4500 in my savings, and a ~690 credit score.

I reapplied to KSU for Fall 2013 and after financial aid (which was a pitifully low amount received from fafsa) my bill is going to be $4970 for one semester out of pocket.

My parents had the same jobs and salary for both times, so I don't know why I hardly got any aid this time.

We are not eligible for ParentPlus, Stafford, or Perkins loans as my parents have a terrible credit history.

I cannot seem to get any of my own loans without a cosigner, which I do not have. There is not a single person in my family or close friends that has good credit and is willing to cosign a loan for me. And no, I am not just saying this, there is literally NO way for me to get a cosigner on anything.

I applied for a bunch of scholarships through the school, and a handful of outside ones. Got nothing.

My cumulative GPA is a 3.63, so I have the academic standing in my favor too.

I literally do not know what else to do, and as of right now there is no way we can afford to pay approx $1753 a month between my parents and I.

In mid august I have a lease on an apartment near the school starting (rooming with two close friends/MUCH cheaper than on campus housing), we all have jobs lined up already, I have a full set of classes scheduled (16hours), and I'm not afraid to work hard to get what I want. I don't know why its such a struggle to just go to school! I've done everything I know how to, and it still isn't enough.

Any advice, tips, anything is much appreciated. :)

  • What if your potential cosigner has lower credit score than you?

I'm 19, and trying to go back to university after some time off to save money and build credit. I got a discover card (use regularly and pay every month), and a dell credit card (used once and paid off in full; for a laptop).

I'm trying to get an apartment off campus, with 2 friends, as it will be considerable cheaper and more space than a dorm. Problem is, I cannot find a suitable cosigner. In order to apply alone, you must be 21 and earn 3x the monthly rent in your own income. I do not have either requirement. However, I do have a part time job and have $3,000 saved up in 8months I've worked. Also, when I got accepted for my dell card, the papers said my score was a 694, which is good.

I have gone to every single close family friend, and relative I can and every one of them have bad credit, loans in default, overdue bills, etc, etc. It's very frustrating to be held back again and again because of my families' rough credit history.

My grandmother is probably my best option, and she has great income, but a patchy credit history again. With her as my cosigner to try and get student loans a year ago, we were denied every time. That was before I had any income or credit of my own though.

I don't know what else to do, but it seems illogical to have a cosigner with worse credit than yourself. Unless the apartment staff is mainly looking for someone who has the income to pay it.

  • Laptop help? Freezing? Malware? Bad Battery?

Ok I have a HP G62 I believe 64 bit laptop running on windows 7; 3 years old now I believe. It has to be plugged in or dies in minutes. Today when I turned it on from hibernate mode (which is what I primarily keep it in) it was running really slow. I thought it was my web browser so I tried another one, same issue. When I tried to open task manager to close the windows it froze and I left it for a good ten minutes before just holding down the power button. It's only gotten worse since. I also tried to boot in safe mode an it just showed a black screen with "safe mode" written in the four corners. I only tried safe mode once though.

It takes forever To boot on, and then will freeze a minute or two after I get it on. It forces me to have to hard reset it again with the power button. The last time I got it on the task bar (bar at bottom that shows time, start button, and what windows are open) is changed from the purple I had to what looks like the old style white one. My background is still the same though. Now I'm thinking I have a serious virus? I have Microsoft Security Essentials and only run quick scans because full scans take like 15 hrs for some reason. I also use CCleaner once or twice a month.

I'd like to get my pics off of it but it doesn't recognize my flash drive and freezes too quick.

How can I fix this? Can I take it somewhere to be fixed cheap? Or should I just invest in a new laptop, I hated this one anyways.

  • Stray cat issues? Help plz?

So basically there was this little calico kitty hanging out around the neighborhood who would always talk to us and run near us, but wouldn't let you touch her long. This was a few days before Hurricane Sandy storms were hitting hard. Sympathy for the little thing made us decide to try and bring her in. We hadn't fed the cat beforehand or anything, but it wasn't difficult to get her as she ended up just walking into our kitchen after the door was left open to air out the smoke from dinner. We figured she'd stay one night and go to the shelter next morning. The only humane society that takes cats anywhere near us was full. From the last week of October until about 3 days ago we called that shelter every adoptable day only to hear "We're full, call again tomorrow." We tried right at opening, tried in the afternoon, tried leaving messages, and sent an email to this one shelter. We also tried a few different cat rescues, one that was even 45 minutes away, just to get rid of this cat.

WE CANNOT KEEP HER. My other cat is 14 yrs old with a heart murmur and cannot handle stress well. He also hates other cats and will begin pooing on our things to show his disdain. The past 5 weeks or so have been very difficult to keep them separate and stress free. Also, we cannot afford to care for two cats. Money is tight and we barely have food for ourselves. In short, after exhausting all options we just let her outside again (she whined at the doors often inside) and it had been 4 or so days until she came back (tonight). She has been howling and whining at the side door for HOURS! I don't want to feed or acknowledge her because I want her to go away! I do not know what else to do, I had no idea it was impossible to find a cute little, social kitty a freaking home! Or I would've kicked her out of the kitchen the one night... Any advice on what to do? Will she eventually realize this isn't "her place" and go away to find food/water/shelter elsewhere? I'd seen her outside last spring on occasion, so I know she can survive. I just worry about winter...

  • What to do with this cat? Shelters are all full.?

We brought in this cat a few days before Halloween that was outside just before the hurricane sandy storms. We got her inside and vowed to take her to the humane society. We have been calling ever available day to get her into this shelter (only one that takes cats) as well as done research for cat rescues near us. There is no shelter within a reasonable distance to us to take her, or they're all full.

My father has stated that it isn't a big deal, he will just take it to work and basically kill her. I think tthat he is an a$$hole and that is not an option!

Sending her back outside is our next and final option, but I don't want her dying outside our house in winter, and we aren't going to be responsible for this stray. I love animals, and I've tried what I know how already, I'm at a loss. I'm rarely even home, so no time for another animal, plus my cat is absolutely terrified of her and hasn't left my bedroom since she got here. The situation isn't working for us, what else can I do?

  • Proper dog walking in apartment complex? No yard.?

My grandma's 2 yr old black lab is unruly and not too good of a listener. I'm certain the problem is my grandmother is not consistent with some things and therefore her dog doesnt see her as the one who makes the decisions. She basically has no boundaries and very few rules, and it shows. She also has way too much pent up energy because she doesnt get a whole lot of exercise for her hyper breed.

The big thing is walking, and because she is not off leash trained (obviously) and lives in an apartment my grandma lets the dog lead her around on walks with the long retractable leash, smelling and going where she pleases. When Ive walked her, there is a constant light pulling and having your arm even lightly pulled for an hour is no fun. I've tried to tell my grandma that if she were to give her some structure on walks that it would begin to show in other areas like chewing up her socks or not coming when called, etc. By structure, I mean train the dog to walk loose leash next to her unless told otherwise. She refuses to do so and says it is mean because she wouldnt be able to sniff and smell and "be a dog" if she was made to walk next to her the whole time. Walks are her only time outside basically, she never gets off leash time because she wont come back if something better than a piece of chicken walks by.

Is it mean to make the dog walk next to her on walks if they are her main reason for outside time?

Should I just give up and let her raise her dog her way and hope it doesnt get sour in time? (I've seen what build up energy does to dogs' psyche)

What do you suggest I do to help train?

I know it's not my dog, but I want to help out my grandma and keep her pup happy.

FYI: I've began walking the dog like this when I take her out because it's easier for me to not be jerking her away from things all the time, and she is much more responsive to basic commands on the walk like sit, and stay. I figured if she works with her on walking next to her then in time she could be off leash to play and run around.

  • Clingy, and dependent cat after being outside ?

My cat is about 13.5 years old and a declawed solely indoor cat. Last Sunday he decided to jump out of a window and was missing until late Tuesday night. He had scratches, lost weight, and appeared to be rather stressed out but otherwise in good health. He had a vet trip Tuesday to make sure, and was given fluids. Since he's been home, he's been rather clingy. He has to be near someone all day, and if everyone is moving around the house he positions himself so he can see everybody. He sucks up attention like a sponge and takes naps so that he is touching you. Whether it be his back or just a paw. He's also more vocal.

There are no other changes in him other than the clinginess. Is this all just because of his outing? And will it pass soon? We're thinking it's probably not healthy for him to have to constantly be near one of us.

  • My bonded palatal expander is loose on one side (can pull it off)?

Last night it happened while I was out with my friends. This morning I woke up and forgot about it, but when I ate it felt REAL weird. I looked in the mirror and when I bite down it is clearly moving back and forth. Also, there is an opening on the front tooth it is attached to. The other side is still attached so it's stuck here til Monday (I have an appt I'll be leaving school to drive to, living on campus)

I've stopped expanding it, and been swishing antispetic mouth wash after I eat. Anything else I should do? I can't go in before Monday.

  • My roommate doesn't want me to have friends in the room?

We live in a small room, yes, but I mean really? She always get's real mad and pissy when I have friends come over. Dirty looks, annoyed remarks, etc. Like if it's one she doesn't care too much just recedes into her corner and doesn't talk or anything. But I like to have 5 or so friends over to play the xbox sometimes and we obviously can't be too loud as the RA lives two doors down and has never said anything to us. And then when everyone leaves she's real like rude to me. Like you guys could have gotten us written up, why do they all have to come here, etc, etc. It really only happens maybe once a week too that I bring people over.

The problem is really, she never leaves the room! She's either in class, getting food, or in the room. So there is no free chance for me to have some friends over without bothering her. She has friends I guess, but doesn't ever hang out with them or talk to them. We've tried to ask her to join us but she always declines.

I've told her I don't care if she brought friends over, and she said "I wouldn't bring alot, and if I did you wouldn't be here." She doesn't know my schedule lol, so that argument is irrelevant.

I have basically given up at it, but I think it's really messed up. What should I tell her about it? She's Chinese and very sensitive! So on top of misunderstanding nearly everything I say to her, she gets upset super easily...

  • I have no creativity. Need help with ideas for a new Gamertag?

I've had the same tag for over 3 yrs. I'm getting real tired of it already and would like to change it. I have ideas of words I want to use in it but can't for the life of me combine them to sound cool.

I'd most like the word Panda in it and/or fancy or anything else similar. (Fancy Panda is a no no) I'd also like a tag that makes it pretty clear I'm not a guy. It's so annoying to hear, "Stfu fag you sound like a girl!' from idiots who get owned by me lol It's not offending at all...

I'm open to any suggestions, and THANKS in advance.

  • How large of a cage for two Bunnies?

I'm looking into possibly adopting a rabbit pair in the future, and I have no idea where to start my research. I know from my experience with guinea pigs that there is a ton of false information out there on google.

So, from bunny owners, how large of a cage would be necessary for a pair (neutered F/M pair likely)? And if you know of any good sites for information that would be great.

  • Upstairs neighbors leave their dog on the porch 24/7?

I live in an apartment complex and my neighbors who live above us have a dog. (It looks like a chupacabra lol) This dog lives on the porch, which is only about 4 feet wide and the length of a sliding glass door. It sleeps in the water heater closet at night and barks all day. I feel so bad for it and the worst thing about it is the flooring is wood slats and when he pees, it goes right on our porch. We had to throw away our grill and all our patio furniture because of it.

I don't even think the owners named him, they just call him perro or Hey! :( They don't speak english and I have a very limited vocabulary in spanish... We've tried to get management involved twice and they "talked" to them about it. There aren't any rescues/shelter for us to call near us. My mom called one and they said as long as they feed him, water him, and clean his "kennel" there's nothing they can do. Their idea of cleaning is a 5 gallon bucket of water being poured over the wood...

What can we do????!! I feel so bad for this dog, and my parents would like our patio back!!

  • Is there an app for iPhone equivalent to Android's MP3 Music Download?

I just got an iPhone 4s and have no idea how to get music now lol. I was using on my android phone "MP3 Music Download" (The black and blue icon app) and it worked fantastically and was completely free.

Any apps like this for iPhone that are safe and have a good rep? I absolutely cannot afford to buy every song for $1.29 from iTunes. Wasn't the iPhone enough money?...

  • Do you believe racism will ever go away? Why is "reverse racism" ok?

Or at least be at a much lower level than today? Sometimes I hear things people say and I'm just speechless at the ignorance and hate aimed at people they've never even met.

And as far as the "reverse racism" question, I am referring to mostly Blacks and Whites. It seems that because of the history of African Americans in this country (which I agree was horrible and disgusting to do to another human being) there are more breaks just for being black. For example, my black friend got over half of her tuition paid for with scholarships for really just her skin color. She didn't even apply for any, and made very average grades in HS (2.8ish). I'm not complaining it just seems off to me that everyone says racism is so horrible, yet we still segregate people based on the color of their skin?!

Also, for all races, I've heard there are companies who have laws that force them to hire more diverse people, sometimes regardless of who is more qualified?? What....?
