I was walking down the street yesterday and saw a buddhist monk, fully dressed in his robe, listening to an ipod. I was just wondering if what he was doing was allowed, or if it was against the rules.

My friend got caught up in a really sticky situation and i was wondering if he could get himself out of it. The story is pretty interesting actually. He snuck onto the roof of his college dorm to smoke some marijuana, but a security guard in the building noticed someone was up on the roof and went up to confront them, because nobody is allowed up on the roof of the building. My friend threw all his weed off the roof, and when the security guard confronted him, my friend pretended that he was thinking about jumping off and committing suicide to get out of trouble. Of course now my friend has to go in to see a therapist twice a week to assess his mental stability, but he's not suicidal, just a dumb kid who didnt want to get caught smoking pot. I told him that he could tell his therapist the truth because he would be protected by doctor-patient confidentiality, but he doesn't want to take a chance. Would the therapist be required to report him?

I was reading a wikipedia article about Buddhism and i guess i'm a little fascinated about the religion. I tried looking up what texts i should read to learn more about it but there were so many that i couldn't decide. What text do you think is the best to read so that someone can get a basic understanding of the religion itself?

Im interesting in sponsoring a child in a third world country and i'm looking for the perfect organization to do it through.

First of all, i want to sponsor a single child and have some sort of direct relationship with them, rather than just donate to a generic program.

Second, i want 100% or almost 100% of my money to go straight to the program rather than just the minimum 80%.

Third of all, i want this organization to be secular; because all my dollars should go food, water, and shelter, and not to teaching children about religion.
