My boyfriend, who is also my best friend, just broke up with me. It was very out of the blue and he was very caring about his delivery with the news and did tell me how much I mean to him. He said how I was the best woman he has ever met and he still cared about me very deeply. However, he says right now he just dislikes himself so much (appearance, job, place in life) that he feels he cannot love me to the way I deserve. He says he feels disappointed and worse about himself when he doesn't treat me like I deserve, like he is dragging me into his misery. We rarely fought, always had a fantastic time together, but he has been really sad the past few months and I tried to help. He made it very clear that he wanted me to stay a part of his life. He said he can't imagine not talking to me or hanging out with me a few times a week (as he loves my company and conversation). He also made it very clear he didn't want to date anyone else. I'm just so confused and just want to be there for him and still love him so much. I also don't understand how just a week ago he told me how much he loved me and I was the only one that understood him and then just this week went out and bought me shoes for work because I was worried about my saftey(I'm in culinary) and yesterday took my dog to the vet because he wanted me to have a dinner with the girls before we went to the movies. He does such nice things for me all the time and I appreciate him for this. I really thought this was the "one" and I had never felt so alive and myself when I was with him. I just don't understand.
