  • How does alcohol affect blood pressure?

I have to have my blood pressure checked on the day after my office Christmas break up party. I would like to be able to drink at this party but also want a genuine BP reading the next day. Does a reasonable consumption of alcohol the day before affect the reading?

  • Are melanomas always cancerous?

Can you have a benign melanoma or are they not called melanomas if they are benign? If you have a melanoma removed and it is cancerous then what would be least amount of treatment you would need? Can surgery ever be enough?

  • If a female has kidney stones are the pains that go along with it regular?

or is it possible to just get them occasionally. I have been getting stomach cramps irregularly and might get two in one night but then nothing for up to a week. I am 49 and going through menopause so put it down to this but now I have had a test which shows blood in my urine and was just wondering.

I have seen a doctor and will be going back for my results but was just wondering if anyone knew the answer to this.

  • Why have an oophorectomy and not a hysterectomy?

I have been told that I will probably need to have an oophorectomy (removal of ovaries) and I am just wondering why they wouldn't just give me the full hysterectomy. I understand that when women have hysterectomies they sometimes leave the ovaries so that the woman isn't pushed into menopause but as I will have to go through menopause anyway why not take the uterus as well? The medication I am on puts me in a higher risk of getting uterine cancer so I would be more than happy to have that removed at the same time. I am just wondering if there is a medical reason why it's not ideal to have it done.

I will definitely ask my oncologist when I see her but didn't think of it at the time and won't be seeing her for another three months. Just wondering if anyone knows a reason. Thanks.

  • What to eat that won't raise sugar levels?

My husband has been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. He needs to lose weight but finds it difficult due to a back problem which makes it hard to exercise. The medication he is on also makes him very hungry.

I have been trying to work through what is good and what is bad etc., and work out a diet that looks after his diabetes and his weight loss. It's all very confusing. Does anyone here know of a good 'snack' that he can eat when he feels peckish. He seems to be ok during the day when he is busy at work etc., but he has trouble at night after his evening meal, the hunger pangs start.

  • Why do some people spend an amazing amount of time bad mouthing breast cancer awareness?

when it would probably be a lot less effort and far more rewarding to actually get out and promote awareness of other cancers that they feel deserve it more?
