Why will the sound from some videos no play on my laptop computer's headphones but for most videos it will?
My headphones work and they are not USB headphones. The headphones plug straight into the headphone jack on the computer.
The weirdest part about it is I'll be on the same webpage and one video won't have any sound at all on the headphones and it is like the video is forcing sound through the laptops internal speakers because the internal speakers can get sound, but the headphones can't.
Often, the very next video that comes up on the very same web page I'll get sound from the headphones like I should and the internal speakers are silent like they should be because the headphones are plugged in.
I've noticed that when the problem videos arise where I can't get sound on my headphones, if I click on the speaker icon on the taskbar, two sound volume controls come up instead of just one. For the videos where I can get sound for my headphones just one sound volume control comes up.
When the two volume controls come up, it looks like one is for the laptop's internal speakers because it shows the level of sound going up and down as the person talks for example. The second volume control (likely for the headphones) shows no sound coming through it at all.
Try what I might, I can't get it to push sound through the headphones for those videos. I've tried working with the mixer to no avail.
For example, this video I can't get the sound to come through the headphones.
2 AnswersOther - Electronics4 years agoIs the SEC's dominance in football coming to an end?
This year we've already seen Georgia get knocked off by Nebraska. LSU struggled with a severely depleted and unranked Iowa team. Alabama got knocked off pretty handily by #11 Oklahoma. And I think Auburn may get pretty handily beaten in the BCS championship game.
Not to mention we've seen the new teams from other conferences like Missouri and Texas A&M that didn't always do too hot in the Big 12 move right to the top of the SEC fairly quickly.
If Auburn gets handed a pretty strong defeat by Florida State, would you agree that the SEC teams have been overrated this year? And beyond that, do you think that their dominance of college football as a conference is coming to an end?
16 AnswersFootball (American)7 years agoHow can I find out more info about what battles my grandfather was in during WWII?
My grandfather fought in WWII. When I was growing up my parents told me not to ask my grandfather about his involvement in the war because the memories were too painful. Out of respect, I never asked him about the war. He died a year or two ago and for the longest time I've always wondered what battles he was in. I don't know what battalion etc that he was in. About the only thing I knew growing up for sure about his involvement in the war was that he was part of the US invasion force to invade Germany. I've been able to find census information online about when he was born and I think I found out that he was drafted out of Evansville, Indiana.
Does anyone know of ways that I can find out what battalion/regiment/company/division he was in and from that likely find out what battles he fought in?
I always imagined him storming the beaches of Normandy when I was growing up, but I'm not sure if he was ever a part of that or not. I don't think my family knows the particulars of his time in the military either. If there are some online search engines, archives or libraries I could contact I'd appreciate it.
5 AnswersGenealogy8 years agoWhere did all of the Seahawks fans and Colts haters go?
All year long I've been hearing how the Colts would never do better than 6-10 or 8-8 at best. They beat the Raiders. And people said that was a gimme win against a descent Raiders team that is better than the Raiders teams of the past. They lost a close game against a good Dolphins team that they should have won had it not been for some horrible officiating that cost them about 10 points. But the Dolphins played well and earned that win.
Then they go into San Francisco and blow out the 49ers by 20 points, which had been ranked among the top 2 teams in the league for most of the season, and somehow people say the Colts win not because they are good but because the 49ers suck.
Then they blow out the Jaguars, which aren't good. But they held Maurice Jones-Drew to slightly over 20 yards rushing. And they blew the Jaguars out by over 30 points.
Then Seahawks fans boast and boast and boast that there is no way that the Colts could knock off the Seahawks. Keep in mind that the Colts lost a number of their good players like their best RB in Vick Ballard, their 2nd best RB in Bradshaw, their best tight end in Dwayne Allen, one of their best offensive line guys in Donald Thomas, their first round draft pick in Bjoern Werner, there best safety in LaRon Landry, their best full back in Havili, etc. And they STILL pulled off a win against the #1 ranked Seahawks. That's what you call a team that has depth and can still play good even when they've lost quality players.
So where have all those Colts haters and Seahawks fans hidden? And what excuse do you think they have now? Especially after the Colts beat a team that the Texans couldn't and the Texans are supposed to be better than the Colts. I mean this Colts team according to the haters wasn't even going to win a wildcard let alone the AFC South. Seems now they are in sole lead for the AFC South with 2 of their toughest 3 games behind them. The only really tough game left should be the Broncos game. They can beat the Texans.
10 AnswersFootball (American)8 years agoHow do I creat a hard hyphen in PowerPoint 2010?
In Microsoft Word 2010, I recently found out that I could create hyphens and spaces that would keep words together on a line by pressing Ctrl + Shift + [Hyphen] or Ctrl + Shift + [SPACEBAR]. That doesn't seem to work with PowerPoint 2010. Using Alt + 0160 seems to work for a hard space. But I can't seem to get a hard hyphen to work. I'd seen somewhere to use Alt + 0173 but that did nothing.
Any ideas?
1 AnswerSoftware8 years agoColts in negotiations with Ahmad Bradshaw. Will they be better than last year?
The Colts have made a bunch of changes this offseason:
1. The Colts are currently in contract negotiations with RB Ahmad Bradshaw who helped the Giants win two Super Bowls.
2. They added Darrius Heyward-Bay at WR who runs a 4.2 second 40 yard dash and was a former 1st round 7th overall pick.
3. The added a super fast (4.3 second 40), big and strong Laron Landry from the Jets at Safety. The dude is a beast! Look up pictures of him with his shirt off.
4. They added Gosder Cherilus to the offensive line to protect Luck. He did a great job of protecting Stafford and helped him get his couple of 5,000 yard seasons.
5. They added what some consider one of the top 3 CB's in Greg Toler from the Cardinals to play opposite of Davis. Heard he looks awesome in OTA workouts.
6. They added a number of pass rushers. They drafted Werner in the 1st round to replace lagging Freeney. Werner has been compared to Kruger (Ravens) and Jared Allen (Vikings). They added Lawrence Sidbury (Falcons) and Walden (Green Bay).
7. They added Hasselbeck as backup QB. Great veteran for helping train Luck.
8. They beefed up the defensive line with a number of 300+ pounders with Ricky Jean Francois (49ers), Aubrayo Franklin (Chargers), Josh Chapman (beast of a NT from Alabama that can push back 3 offensive linemen all by himself), and Montori Hughes (a 6'4, 340 pound beast that is as fast as a pass rusher). Yes, Hughes is literally 340 pounds AND that fast.
9. Then they drafted two big versatile 300+ pounders to beef up the offensive line in Thornton (Illinois) and Holmes (USC) that can move to different sections off the offensive line if a player on the offensive line gets injured. Not to mention they added Donald Thomas (Patriots) to the offensive line.
10. They drafted an extremely fast safety from Oregon in Boyett that had nearly the fastest 40 yd dash time in the draft even while being injured.
11. They drafted a good TE in Cunningham (Sout Carolina) that reminds me a lot of their TE Dwayne Allen who as a rookie was the best rookie TE and 3rd best TE in the NFL last year (veterans included).
12. They drafted a good punt returner in Williams (Utah State).
13. Griff Whalen is coming back healthy and he plays like a young Wes Welker.
14. They replaced Arians with Pep Hamilton (former OC for Stanford, with a good background with NFL teams). I think Peps system is better suited for the team than Arians system even though Arians system worked fairly well.
To me, it looks like they can play much more physical this year with far bigger, faster and stronger offensive and defensive lines. Their secondary looks by far the best I've ever seen it, going from a secondary composed where nearly all the players were non-drafted and it couldn't stop anything to guys that can truly make names for themselves and potential be among the best in the league. They replaced Avery with an even better receiver. And the nearly all rookie team from last year has those rookies with some experience now along with quite free agent veterans added to the mix. Then to round out and fix the last little weak spot they bring in an RB like Bradshaw.
I'm excited about this year. Many say the Colts will have a sophomore slump. But this year they have far more money to spend, far more experience, and they added a ton of free agents not to mention the additions of good players that were out all year last year injured.
So knowing that, do you think they'll slump and do worse than last year. Or will they do better and knock off the Texans for the AFC South title and make a good run in the playoffs. Keep in mind they beat the Texans at home last year and nearly beat them on the road.
9 AnswersFootball (American)8 years agoAre there any types of cooking sprays that are OK to use on Teflon or non-stick pans?
When you read the instructions on almost any non-stick pan, they pretty much always say not to use a non-stick cooking spray. From what I've been told, the cooking spray can get down into the micro-crevices and cause the pan to no longer be non-stick. Is that because the oil when it gets sprayed in that fine of a mist it can then get down into those micro crevices? Or is it because of the chemicals they put into those aerosol cans to pressurize it and get it to be a fine mist?
I would assume that at least one cooking spray company would consider that and develop a spray that can be used on pans.
To avoid the aerosol spray problem I've started using the Misto olive oil pump spray. It works pretty good. But can that cause the same problems?
I was told by even a professional baking chef to use Pam for greasing the pans for baking breads. Will that affect the non-stick baking pans?
I'm assuming the way a non-stick surface works is that if you looked at it on a microscopic level, the surface would likely look something like a mountain range, minimizing the amount of surface area that comes into contact with the food, thus reducing the amount that it sticks.
So can anybody delve into these questions with some good technical answers?
10 AnswersCooking & Recipes8 years agoWhen is it preferable to use a stainless steel pan over a non-stick pan?
I'm starting to get into cooking a lot and one of the things I'd like to find out is when a stainless steel pan is preferable to use over a good non-stick pan.
I realize one instance would be when you want to use metal kitchen tools in the pan such as maybe using an electric mixer in the pan. I've heard some say they are better for browning. If so, why are they better for browning?
The main reason I kind of stuck to the stainless steel pans was because I was afraid of getting big bad messes in the bottom like when you cook dairy products or certain oils and you get gunk in the bottom you can't get out. I had ruined a number of Teflon pans by scrubbing hard to get that stuff out.
With my Teflon pans now when that happens I fill them with water, bring it to a boil, turn it down to low and stir in some baking soda and let it sit for about a half hour when that happens. And the gunk comes out pretty easy. But recently I got a really good pan (Scanpan) and I swear after I was done cooking my chicken breasts, you couldn't hardly tell that I'd even cooked in them. Nothing stuck whatsoever and people have even told me you can use metal utensils in them although I'm not going to test that out.
With the stainless I could scrub them with no worries. What I'm wondering is with these new and better non-stick surfaces, is there truly a reason why I use the stainless steel ones over the non-stick pans?
10 AnswersCooking & Recipes8 years agoWho are the best top candidates for Purdue University's football coach?
Purdue just got through firing Danny Hope as Purdue's head football coach, which I think was a little overdue, although I have to give Hope an A for effort. Which coaches do you think could be great potential candidates for Purdue's head coaching job? I'd love to see them pick up another great coach like they did with Joe Tiller. Please include a list of names and where they are coaching now and at what position (ie - head coach, offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, etc).
1 AnswerFootball (American)9 years agoWhat do you think of the prospects of Andrew Luck vs Peyton Manning in the playoffs?
I'm thinking the AFC seeds will likely fall this way:
1. Texans - AFC South title
2. Ravens - AFC North title
3. Patriots - AFC East title - 3rd via tie-breaker win over Broncos
4. Broncos - AFC West title
5 Steelers - 1st Wildcard - easiest schedule left of teams competing for wildcard
6. Colts - 2nd Wildcard - Hold 2 game lead over next closest wildcard contenders, not counting Steelers who they hold a half game lead on
That means for the first round, the 6th seed Colts might likely play the 4th seed Broncos and we'd have a Peyton Manning vs. Andrew Luck matchup for the first round of the playoffs with the winner likely taking on the Texans.
6 AnswersFootball (American)9 years agoWhy will Internet Explorer 8 not let me save my favorites to old folders?
I just got a new computer for work. IT copied over all of my favorites from my old XP computer. Including all of the favorites sub folders. For some reason Internet Explorer 8 will let me save a webpage to my favorites folder and to new folders I create in my Favorites folder. But it will not let me save any favorites to a folder that was created on my old XP computer. The folders are in the same location as the others and appear to be set up the same. Even when I rename a folder it still won't save the favorite to it.
I'm wondering if somehow Windows XP creates folders differently than Windows 7? I've got dozens of folders and would hate to manually create new folders for all, copy over all the data and then rename th folders accordingly.
2 AnswersSoftware9 years agoWhat are the best Android Apps for downloading music?
I'm new to Android phones and want to find a music downloading app that will let me play the music that I buy on other music players. Are there any ones that will do that? I was investigating Amazon MP3 and Google's music store but both make it sound like you can only play the music you buy from them on their app and their app only. My thinking is that if I buy music, I should be able to play it on basically any music player I want, just the same as if I bought the cd.
1 AnswerMusic & Music Players9 years agoWhy is setting Addins("FileName").Installed = True failing with VBA?
I'm trying to programmatically install my addins so with a click of the button the program can be updated for my coworkers. I uninstall and remove the old add-in then copy the most up-to-date addin from our server using the Add method and setting the Copy argument to True. I can get the Sub to work on my computer and another co-worker's computer but another one of my coworkers I can't get it to work at all. It gets to the .Installed = True line and states something to the affects of it can't set Install to True. I've tried attacking the problem from a bunch of angles and am at whits end. I've made sure that I added the add-in to the list of addins. It does show up in the list. I've tried referencing it as an Add-In object by looping through the Addins even and searching for the one where it's name is that name then using the Addin object. I've tried combining the Add method and Install method in the same line. I've tried reconfiguring the security settings to enable all macros and trust the vba project. I digitally signed the project. I put the file in a trusted location. Even set it to be OK to trust server locations and still no go. I also tried adding it then opening the file then setting Installed to True. None of that works. Has anyone else encountered this. I've looked all across the web and can't seem to find an answer. And all of these methods worked on my computer and another coworkers but not this one computer. He has the same version of windows and all, I tried copying every setting I could think of.
I'm thinking it has to be something with the security settings somehow. Would greatly appreciate if someone figures this out.
Thanks!
1 AnswerProgramming & Design9 years agoWhere can I get replacement batteries for the Sony Cybershot DSC-HX100V camera?
Around Christmas I bought a Sony Cybershot Model DSC-HX100V camera and I bought a replacement battery for it at Best Buy. The store clerk told me that Sony's own replacement batteries wouldn't fit in the camera and that the generic one did. Well, I tested the generic on and it doesn't fit either. Does anyone know of a store where I can find a back-up battery to fit my camera or have suggestions? The battery is a Sony NP-FH50 battery. I looked on Sony's website and couldn't find where they sold batteries there. The generic is too thick to fit.
2 AnswersCameras9 years agoWhat is the best manual lemon juice extractor/press.?
I like making home-made lemonade at home. And I haven't really found a good fast way yet to extract lemon juice. The twist jars take a good amount of time and the screen gets full of pulp and is hard to clean. The Mexican style hand juicers that you squeeze like a set of pliers don't work very well for me (they don't get much juice out) and I've even broken a pair. So far about the best way has been a wooden hand juicer over a wire mesh screen and a bowl, but that takes a while.
So I got thinking about how the lemon shake up stands normally juice lemons with those presses where you put the cup under the press and pull the lever down. Since they are so expensive I'd like to get the opinion of someone who's ran a lemon shake-up stand on what brand they most recommend. I figure if it can handle that kind of use then it will work for my home use without breaking down.
If you've ran a food stand and served lemon shake-ups, can you recommend what brands are best to buy. THANKS!!!
4 AnswersNon-Alcoholic Drinks10 years agoWho was the new young punt returner for the Colts against the Packers?
I saw a really good punt return somewhere around the beginning of the 3rd quarter for the Colts in their recent preseason game against the Packers. The guy looks like he has some serious skill. He looked super skinny, but could bob and weave like crazy. Anybody know the player's name? I happened to miss his name during the game. I just wanted to make sure he wasn't one of the 8 that the Colts cut because they need a good punt returner.
2 AnswersFootball (American)10 years agoDynamic VBA coding - How to manipulate VBA components at runtime?
I'm trying to learn how to dynamically add components to a VBA user form, add new code dynamically, and then run the code. John Walkenbach's book "Power Programming with VBA" covers this topic in Chapter 28 "Manipulating Visual Basic Components", but I can't get the examples to completely work.
I have no problem getting the code to work to add new objects to a form. I also don't have any problem getting InsertLines to add dynamic code to the form's module. The code appears in the form's module, just like I'd like.
So the command button shows up on the form and the Click Event shows up in the form module and looks like this:
Private Sub CommandButton1_Click()
MsgBox "Hello"
End Sub
But when I click on CommandButton1, it is like Excel doesn't even know I've written a Click Event for the button. I've made sure to reference the Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications Extensibility library. And I made my changes to the macro settings to trust access to the vba project object model. But it still doesn't work!
Does anyone know why it isn't recognizing my Click Event? I'm using his 100 CommandButtons example and it just seems like something just was forgotten to be mentioned in the book or something. Either that or I'm doing something wrong.
I know this isn't the easiest of topic, but I'd greatly appreciate any help because I'm trying to use this concept to add more text boxes and combo boxes to a form in a VBA project that I'm working on. My complex form has 17 rows of objects. Each row enters a line of instructions on an Excel worksheet. But with 17 rows of objects, the form is getting pretty big. So I created a spin button to hide the first row and add a new row and move the rest of the rows up. Selections of the combo boxes bring up other forms to quickly enter data for making calculations and such. So when I add a new row, the new objects have to have event procedures that work to bring up the new forms. I've solved adding the objects, etc...just not getting the events to work. I've thought about creating a work-around just staying with 17 instruction rows and not adding any new objects and just storing the data to an array to work with for certain portions. So for example if I add an 18th row, the 1st row that would have gotten hidden would get added to the array. But that would involve completely rewriting major portions of my program to work with the array data instead of the form's objects. So if someone can help me out this would save me a lot of extra work.
4 AnswersProgramming & Design1 decade agoNSLog won't display results long enough to see them?
Hi, I'm a total complete newbie to Objective-C 2.0 programming. I'm starting to learn the language from Stephen Kochan's book "Programming in Objective C 2.0". I'm writing my code in XCode on a Mac and I'm trying to do Program 2.2 in the book if anybody is familiar with the book. I'm using the Command Line Tool and chose the Foundation type.
The problem I'm coming across is that NSLog appears to be displaying the results, but it displays the results so fast then closes it that I cannot even see what the results of the NSLog are. How can I set it up so that I can actually see the results?
I'm sure it probably has something to do with it being a command line routine, because I kind of ran into the same type of thing when I was learning VB.Net.
1 AnswerProgramming & Design1 decade agoVBA - Setting up a User Defined Class for Text Boxes?
I'm trying to get more efficient with my VBA programming, but I'm not the most proficient yet with declaring classes. I want to find out how I can create a user defined class of text boxes and trap the BeforeUpdate event for any text box pertaining to that class.
For example:
Let's say I have a user form with 20 text boxes. Half of those text boxes I want to only contain numbers greater than 0. So I create a text box class called clsNumTxtBxGT0, then I make those ten text boxes for numbers greater than zero all that class of text box. Once I've done that, I want to trap the BeforeUpdate event. So if a user tries to update any one of those text boxes it brings up a message box that states the entry has to be a number greater than zero. Then the text box value is reset to blank and afterwards the Cancel argument of BeforeUpdate is set to True so that the cursor doesn't move to the next object so the user can easily re-enter their data.
I'm hoping that there is a way I can define a class of text boxes. Then use that class to detect if ANY of those text boxes of that class have been updated with the BeforeUpdate event. I'm wanting to avoid writing code in the BeforeUpdate event of EVERY text box. Instead, I wanted to write one small Sub that gets used for all of those text boxes.
Please don't suggest using a Call procedure in the BeforeUpdate event of each text box. I know how to do that an that still requires putting some code in for every text box.
Thanks!
