  • Sights to see and things to do in South West Australia, South of Perth?

I'm not from around Perth or WA and planning a road trip for in a couple of weeks and was just wondering if people had any suggestions about what's good to see and do. I mean I already have a lot of things on the list but I'm just wondering if people knew any not so 'well known' places we should check out and visit; maybe there's a cool cove or a less heard-of place that might be interesting to see. If not, a handful of your favourite places down there would be handy to know so I can check them out if I haven't already looked them up.

    Thank youuu

  • What are good bodyweight exercises and workout plans for building muscle?

I'm a student, studying away from home and as per the 'poor student' myth, I prefer to not buy the insanely expensive gym membership. My question is: What are some good workouts to do with just your body weight? The question includes how to do them, since at home I'm used to doing hypertrophy with an Olympic bar, exercises with just bodyweight are fairly new to me. Obviously, I know I'm not going to be like Arnold with just bodyweight exercises, a low or moderate amount of muscle gain will do me just great; what can I do to maximise muscle gain without buying anything?

I have access to a pull-up bar and there are loads of great green fields outside, although I prefer to do my workouts in my room. I also don't have my protein powder, I supplement with just milk, fish oil, multivitamins and a generally healthy diet (meat, rice, veg, porridge, etc)

  • Is applelectronic.com a scam site? I think I've been scammed, what should I do?

Hi, I bought something earlier this week from applelectronic.com, everything seemed ok. They sent me an email saying that my package should arrive within 2-4 days of payment going through and they'd send me an email with the tracking number as soon as they send it off... 4 days later, no email, no tracking number, no nothing. Sent them an email yesterday asking if all is ok - no reply yet.

I payed through Paypal and their paypal account says "Key wise investments limited (payment@applelectronic.com)". Looked-up Kew Wise investments on company check.co.uk, and it's listed as a real estate company.

I don't know, any advice would be good. They have a twitter, a facebook and other little things that help make them seem legitimate but there's still something fishy about them.

Since I payed through Paypal, would it be relatively easy for me to get my money back if this turns out to be a real scam?

  • How much calories do I roughly burn at work?

Ok so I'm trying to count my calories; how much I consume/ expend daily. And so I'm trying to figure out what intensity my job is because more often than not, I'm tired after coming home and don't have enough energy to exercise.

This is a temporary 30-hour/ week job at a supermarket; 6 days of 5 hour shifts. It includes lifting boxes often upto about 15kg each, stocking shelves and serving at the checkout (we stand behind the checkout, there aren't any chairs) and I rarely have time for my 10 minute lunch break.

I mean obviously it depends, a lazy person wouldn't expend as much calories doing this job as a more hardworking person so it's hard to say exactly how much calories I go through. But I think I'm relatively hardworking and would appreciate a rough estimate of whether this type of work could be classified as light, medium or hard intensity.

I'd tend to give it "medium intensity" but in case I'm biased and feel sorry for myself, that's why I'm asking here, what do you think?

  • looking for a lightweight wheeled bag around 2-3kg and 80-90 litres?

I've been searching for ages but can't find anything smaller than 115 litres, which is huge. I want something like this:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Borderline-Cherry-Extra-...

    or this:

    http://www.karabars.co.uk/Shop/Lightweight-Luggage...

but under 95 litres and still around 2.5kg.

I'm worried that putting around 80litres worth of stuff in a bag like that will mean it will damage the bag.

    Any suggestions?

  • Men: How often do you get haircuts?

My question is of social acceptability I guess: How often would you say you get your hair cut and why?

At the moment I'm going at about 10-12 weeks between cuts. I like mine short and probably get about a number 3 or 4-size cut. If I was a don, a movie star or just anyone with minimal monetary restrictions I'd probably have to get it cut every 4 weeks or so.

I realise haircuts aren't gold watches, mansions or sports cars and you don't need a mortgage for one. I just like saving and I feel I may be getting mine cut too frequently.

  • Can you recommend me a Spanish audio lessons program?

I'm interested in learning Spanish, since my commute to work takes between 30-40 minutes I thought I could use the time wisely. I'm 95% set on one of those audio programs where you repeat the words because I can use this when I cycle to work... Can anyone recommend me a good program such as this please? ... I'm not even sure if calling it a "program" is correct; audio lessons, audio language lessons? I mean something to upload to my ipod and listen while on the train/ bike.

It doesn't matter if it's free or paid, I can afford it either way. Thank you in advance!

  • Weightlifting tips for diabetics, how to use my insulin more effectively?

Ok so I'm diabetic (using a standard mix of fast and slow acting insulin, Novorapid and Levemir). Before people react critically (I'm expecting people to tell me I'm abusing insulin as an anabolic hormone), let's remember that everyone has insulin, it's just that us non-insulin secreting diabetics have to inject it and I'm not a professional or even competitive athlete so I'm not so much abusing insulin as I am... just using it, I guess?

What I know so far: insulin helps push glucose, proteins and amino acids from the blood into the muscles; the basic premise being that you need to consume glucose, protein and amino acids before you inject the insulin. umm yeah, apart from the very basics, that's basically all I know.

I'm asking for what the best safe way to take my insulin is. When in relation to workout (before/ during/ after)? With what food? What type of insulin and when (is it better to maybe give myself some slow acting insulin before the workout)?

    Much obliged.

  • Do tattooists find first-time customers annoying? How do I approach them?

Hi so I'm thinking of getting my first tattoo and the only thing stopping me is the thought of how to approach the tattooist that I want. She's a super talented local artist with her own shop and her previous work and style are all perfect for what I want. I'm scared of looking out of place and not knowing how to act in a tattoo shop also that she will be offended by me wanting to get something relatively small (about 2 x 2 inches) and of my own drawn-up design instead of something big and her own design.

Any tips on how to approach/ what to do?.

  • How can I change how my windows look in Windows 7?

I want to reduce or preferably remove the little skirts on the side and bottom of my windows in Windows 7. You know the ones whose colour you can change with Aero mode? yeah those. Is that possible in Windows 7? do I need a theme or a third party mod or something?

Please don't tell me to get a Mac. I like the way Macs look inside and out but they're overpriced, my hard-earned software and games won't work on them and the interface is frustratingly different (and actually sub par) to what I'm used to. Windows has worked well for me until now and I respect you if you decide to use a Mac but lets just agree to disagree on our OS preferences.

    Thank you in advance.

  • Is there such thing as a USB to AC power adapter?

I have a portable solar-power charger with a usb port where I can stick my phone or mp3 player to get charged. Problem is, I also want to charge my dslr camera batteries but they can only get charged via a charger that sticks into an AC/ mains outlet. So my question is, is there such a cable or adapter that has a male usb component on one side and a female AC power component on the other side? Where can I get one/ what is it called?

  • Is camping outside of designated campsites legal in Australia?

I'm an international student and I'm planning to go hiking with friends this summer out in the outback, we've researched it quite well and are taking all the relevant precautions. We've booked a couple of caravan sites for some nights but due to the scarcity of these sites where we plan to go, we will have to either sleep in a crowded car or in a tent near a beach. All my friends say that it shouldn't be a problem for us to just pitch a tent and carry-on driving/ hiking the next day but my question is, would we be okay doing that from a legal point of view? of course, we plan to take all rubbish with us and leave the land the way we found it (I'm a geography student so ecology is something I'm quite passionate about).

  • How do you get checked for cancer?

I mean how would you go about asking to be tested?... If I have a broken arm I go to emergency, if I have an infection or any other common illness I call-up my doctor and ask for an appointment.

But if I'm just apprehensive and want to get checked out for cancer... you know, 'just in case', do I just call my doctor and say "hey doc, I think I might have cancer, can you check my rectum?".

I haven't really ever had any cause to think that I might have cancer, I've had sharp groin and abdominal pains a few times but I'm told that's normal for guys. The media regularly shows us how cancer just 'happens' every now and then but rarely tells us what to do.

So, say you're in my shoes, what would you do?

  • am I eating too little? what diet should I maintain?

I've been reading up on why fasting is bad and what it can do so I was wondering if the diet I'm currently setting myself can be classified under that effect?

    I'm 6'3" (192cm) with a sorta heavy/ athletic build. I'm 211 lbs (96kg) and I lost about 30 lbs (12kg) in the past 6 weeks.

For the past six weeks I've basically been eating very little and exercising:

    - a piece of fruit for breakfast (like one kiwi/ pear/ orange)

    - almost always skip lunch or at worst have another piece of fruit.

    - and finish-up with dinner: a mid-large salad (no dressing) and either a piece of fish or chicken, slowly fried with a little canola oil.

    - plus I drink plenty of water and take multi-vitamin and fishoil supplements.

    - I exercise two to three times a week, running at around 6-7mph for 45-55 minutes and doing pushups and crunches...

I basically feel really good, having lost that weight and being able to fit better into clothes rocks but I'm worried that such a low calorie intake is essentially causing starvation and eroding my muscle mass as well as fat. I haven't talked to any professionals about dieting. I want to keep my muscle, hopefully build more muscle and just get rid of my belly which has gone down in the past 6 weeks but isn't completely gone yet. What should I do?

I'm open to suggestions. I don't want to be anorexic but eating very little and not having to cook is way more preferably with my busy schedule and limited budget than maintaining a complex diet of different foods.

  • How do you count calories/ carbs?

It's so hard. I mean, I went ahead and made myself a salad with a tiny bit of mayo for breakfast today but there aren't any labels, I can only guess (let's call it a medium/ large portion) and look at what the internet might suggest.

Secondly, how specific should it be? I feel like guessing isn't a very good way to go and that I should know exactly how many calories there are down to the last 5 or 10 but weighing my food, then checking the internet for guides or approximations is long and tedious and distracting.

How do YOU guys do it? are the problems I mentioned familiar to you, if so how did you cope?

  • Taking medicines or supplements with meals, how do you do it and do you have to?

I'm thinking in the direction of fish oil capsules and multivitamin tablets. Both of them (the ones I have) are over-the-counter supplements that tell you to consume x amount daily preferably with a meal or as professionally prescribed.

My question is, what would be the risk of just taking it with water? also I find the term "consume with meal" a little too broad. What does it mean, crush your tablets and mix into your salad? or swallow them right before or right after you take the first bite?

    Foregoing thanks.

  • Help with Australian mobile phone networks?

OK I've returned back home to OZ for the first time after living in the UK for 15 years. In the UK it's simple: either buy a monthly plan with or without a phone or just get a sim card, put it in your old phone; keep adding money as it runs out and it will stay there for as long as your account is active, a pay as you go option.

In Australia however, I haven't yet heard anyone mention pay as you go. Everything comes with a monthly plan. You can buy a standard sim and put money on it but it will be nullified if you don't use it within a month. you can put say $10 on and it will come up as a different amount of credits on your phone account and god knows how to find how much calls cost . I've only looked at Vodafone so far but it just seems bizzare.

Any UK to Australian expatriates able to fill me in on how the Aussie system works as opposed to the UK one?
